Re: The Raspberry Pi 3 Model B Q&A thread

When I insert a µ-SD-card into my new Pi3's SD-card slot, it doesn't "click" like it does on the Pi2 when it (the SD-card) snaps-in. Also I can't snap-out the µ-SD-card from the Pi3 like it does on the Pi2 by pressing it (the SD-card) a little bit more, but I have to pull it out from the Pi3's slot....

Re: The Raspberry Pi 3 Model B Q&A thread

Congratulations to the Pi Foundation and all its helpers for this thrilling birthday present. They always manage to amaze us. :-) 1g of ram, 64bit cpu, what is point? more ram eating? Well, so far Raspbian will run in 32-Bit mode, so no more RAM eating compared to a 32-Bit Pi2. Also, it is possible ...

Re: Why the obsession with OpenGL?

I reckon for a first version, this OGL driver is pretty good. Yes, indeed. Even the "acid test" aka Blender worked fine right out of the box. We only created a few smaller models but it worked very fine so far. For an alpha driver indeed! As the OP said, it does resort to SW rendering when there is...

Re: Why the obsession with OpenGL?

I don't think they will ever get them ready. Application sets for Desktop GL and ES are different. The Pi is "odd" because you have a chip designed for mobile applications (hence supporting ES) being used in a desktop environment (which really wants "full" GL). How true. It's another reason why the...

Re: Why the obsession with OpenGL?

OpenGL ES 2.0 has been available on the PI since they start (or soon after). Some of us have even written applications using it ! Peter, thanks for that addition, and indeed I too use OpenGL-ES on the Pi since I got one (mostly via Java's FX which on ARM devices uses OpenGL-ES to do hardware accele...

For us here Blender is a "killer app", and according to some first short tests, it works great with the new alpha OpenGL driver on our Pi². Not to mention my wife's "killer app" Tetzle ... ;-) And the desktop's windows are moved, resized etc faster now. Because this new driver provides HW accelerate...

Raspbian's alpha OpenGL driver for Ubuntu (Mate) ?

Is it possible to use Raspbian's new alpha OpenGL driver in Ubuntu (Mate) for the Pi2 ? I mean the Ubuntu version offered on the Foundation's download page under "Third party images". It uses Raspbian's Pi2 kernel plus certain Raspbian drivers and raspi-config, and Ubuntu's ARMv7 repository for the ...

Geogebra v4 worked fine on the Pi, but with version 5 Geogebra provides some additional 3D graphics. However, the application now throws an error message on my Pi when run with:> java -jar geogebra.jar (On an AMD/Intel Linux machine, Geogebra v5 runs fine, but I would like to run it on the Pi.) I don't know if Ubuntu's ARM Linux directly works on our Pi2, but you could download "Ubuntu Mate" for the Pi2 from here: https://www.raspberrypi.org/downloads/ It's Ubuntu's version 15.10 for the ARM, with all the packages we know from the Intel/AMD-Ubuntu 15.10 plus Raspbian's kernel (I think) and...

Re: Grandmother with a RPi2

You can download Ubuntu (Mate) 15.10 for the Pi2 here: https://www.raspberrypi.org/downloads/ It's Canonical's Ubuntu for the ARM7 plus Raspbian's kernel (I believe) and some Raspbian drivers. All in all it looks and works like Ubuntu 15.10 with all the same software packages. Firefox runs well, but...

You could download and install Ubuntu (Mate) 15.10 from here: https://www.raspberrypi.org/downloads/

It has got the same application versions as standard desktop Ubuntu 15.10 has, i.e. they're usually newer than Debian including Raspbian.

Re: Raspbian Jessie Vs. Ubuntu MATE on the Pi 2

Users who're used to an Ubuntu desktop PC, will find Ubuntu (Mate) for the Pi² to be amazing indeed – it actually feels like a full-grown Ubuntu desktop machine, but just so much smaller and hence handier. Typical desktop applications do run faster on Ubuntu compiled for ARM7, compared to Raspbian c...

Re: Raspberry Pi Zero pricing in Europe

I agree with Mikognn concerning the Pi Zero's current cost: 14,95 € here in Germany . So, as usual, there's usury with those who already have a few Pi's to sell. Clearly we better do what Gkreidl said: wait until they really have it in stock in quantity. But those who don't wait or don't know the or...

Well, don't believe anything our governments tell us officially. Compare for yourself what your bread cost ~15 years ago in DM in contrast to what your bread costs today in Teuro. Then we see the actual inflation which is more like 24%. :-)

Re: Serious HDMI Problems. What's that smell? Burning Raspbe

The mentioned VicTsing active converter works fine with the Pi1 (B) and Pi2. That's great. In order to hear audio from the Pi's jack-socket while the VGA-converter is plugged-in the Pi's HDMI socket, hdmi_ignore_edid_audio=1 is useful. See config.txt help page. So with a bit of luck it could also wo...

So, an active HDMI to VGA convertor (like this VicTsing one) should work for a Pi2, I suppose? Still, Dranoweb had problems with his Pi1 B+. Isn't the video hardware part of the Pi1 B+ very similar to or the same as the Pi2 ? And what would happen if I connected my Pi1 (model B rev2) to this VicTsin...

Sounds like some incorrect settings in your "/boot/config.txt" file concerning your VGA monitor. This file is used at boot time by the Pi "BIOS" before the OS is being loaded. I've got a DVI monitor, and Raspbian works out of the box, but Ubuntu 15.10 showed a black screen because of not sutiable se...
