Re: Sight for the Blind for <100$

I was playing today with the After-Sight device, using the latest image, Technaxx TX-25 glasses and stereo headphones. My impression is that the combination of raspivoice and teradeep has great potential, especially once teradeep's object recognition gets it right more often. A few remarks: 1. Defau...

It was requested that I post the latest filesystem image as well. https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B30mp6PR6KIceW1kaTFiVXc5Ync/view?usp=sharing Note that this latest image does not contain mr_indoj's recent fix for cameras that have a built-in microphone: "sudo nano /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf" ...

Re: Sight for the Blind for <100$

Yes, I recently referred Rich to the After-Sight project when he was inquiring about an ultrasonic emitter. Rather than having yet another open source project for a device for the blind, I suggested joining forces if possible and meaningful. Maybe a Sonic-Eye-like device could be used to offer a cru...

Re: Sight for the Blind for <100$

I will see about obtaining a problematic camera to help solve these issues. Thanks! I suggest to not bother about finding a "problematic" camera (reproducing the problem when you want to is a pain here: I failed to do so in a dozen or so reboots last night), and just add some error checking with co...

6. I shall add a triple vibrate on startup on my next changes. I still occasionally find that my Logitech C270 webcam, even with the recent microphone fix, does not turn on after turning the system on. The menu then speaks, but when starting raspivoice or teradeep, nothing happens. Next I notice th...

Maybe, these cameras have audio support, that may create isues? ... Edit this file and remove the # on the 2nd line, and see if that works. I think you nailed it! Both the Logitech C270 and the Minoru 3D webcam have a built-in microphone. I uncommented the line in /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf tha...

Peter Can you run these 2 commands from a terminal: sudo killall "python menu.py" sudo python menu.py Even when not starting raspivoice, the system attempts to start the frame grabbing loop. Today again tried the January 19 image with my Technaxx camera glasses, and raspivoice worked! Added teradeep to the mix, and that worked too (cool!). Then did more testing with my trusted Logitech C270 HD Webcam, but it worked not once, no matter what I tried in terms of adapted resolutions like 64...

Re: Sight for the Blind for <100$

Do you have the camera plugged in when you boot, or do you plug it in later? I choose that resolution, because i found that i got a bit unclean soundscapes (like the broken Technaxx that i have) with my other camera as well, this did not happen with the higher resolution. I have the camera plugged ...

Re: Sight for the Blind for <100$

Unfortunately, this may be a logitech issue: Not sure but it might also be an issue with OpenCV 3.0 and/or Python's linking to OpenCV. I tried the OpenCV version of The vOICe on the PC and it ran fine if I used my Logitech C270 right away in 1280 x 720 resolution. However, there I'm using C/C++ (no...

Hi Peter, Does that camera support 1280X720? I changed the resolution in this image, because i got better results with the 2 cameras a tested, the Technaxx glasses, and another non branded camera board. Have you tried the Technaxx? If this causes isues, we might need a setting for the main camera r...

Re: virtual line following

Hi Mike, Would it add much? Feature detectors and the like can fail. Assuming the presence of buildings or other more or less regular structures across the street, the blind user can already notice that when veering/turning left (right) The vOICe soundscapes tend to have a rhythm that slows down (sp...

Re: Sight for the Blind for <100$

You are using image files, and an empty file as a flag to indicate when an image file is ready to be used. This means we no longer need a video 'T' which would be processor intensive anyways, and considering what we are running, we don't have much to spare. I do not know much about Raspberry Pi and...

Re: Sight for the Blind for <100$

Hi Pranav and mr_indoj, Indicating the position of a recognized object in an image through spatial sound would be great, but I think the current crop of neural networks only returns a word or phrase plus a confidence score but no positional information at all, not even left or right. So for now this...

Re: Sight for the Blind for <100$

A blind user of raspivoice on a vanilla Raspberry Pi device today reported to me that using the latest image he got stuck with the startup message, apparently for lack of the rotary knob hardware that the After-Sight devices have. 3. As for the object recognition, it first thought my hand was a cloak, then a thimble and then something else. It seems to have a fascination for recognizing items as toilet tissue. <grin Hi Pranav, Regarding your point 3: You can find a list of about 1,000 classes at http://image-net.org/challeng...
