Re: RbPi Foundation's strategy doesn't make sense to me

RbPi foundation have taken the stance of not caring what the hobbyists and industrial customers want, for example not adding gigabit LAN and have turned down a bunch of other performance related ideas. Two things are important to consider that I think you have not considered. 1. The performance of ...

Re: gphoto, apache and permissions

I think you need to enable running cgi from whatever directory the python scripts are installed in. The settings for that go into the Apache server configuration file. Do a google search for Python and Apache and you should find several guides on how to make this work. I'd probably set the directory...

Re: Send an email when a file is created

I know my questions are stupid, can I just put the line anywhere or does it have to be a specific place? I usually leave it wherever it originally was in the file, but usually with config files like this it doesn't matter. It makes sense to put them in an order that makes them easy to find. Be care...

Re: Is Epiphany faster on Jessie?

Thanks for the replies, I will stay with Wheezy. I don't have a good explanation for why I thought it might be faster with Jessie other than newer should be better? Or maybe Jessie just sounds faster than Wheezy :D . I have a bunch of RPi B+ s which is why I'm trying to find a way to use them rathe...

Re: Send an email when a file is created

Yeah, it said it wasn't a command. When I put it in the config, nothing happened. I don't know what I did wrong... I might have placed it in the wrong place or something... That is not a command. It goes in the config. If you are testing, you leave that off when you enter it into the console. It's ...

Re: The Next Raspberry Pi: RPi Chicken?

That's nothing to do with the DSI display. It's the driver for an SPI display rpidisplay: rpi-display@0{ compatible = "ilitek,ili9341"; and works as the driver for my http://www.adafruit.com/products/1770 SPI display which is based on the ILI9341. And here I've been wondering for the longest time, ...

It sends emails manually but not when a video is created. BTW, is it made so it sends the video with it? If so, how do I disable that? I was supposed to put on_movie_end echo ‘Webcam Alert’ | mail -a %f -s “Webcam Alert” youremail@youremailprovider.com in sudo nano /etc/motion/motion.conf not the c...

Re: Is Epiphany faster on Jessie?

Epiphany has still to be updated / fixed for Raspbian Jessie. You'll have to wait until it is ready. It won't get any faster, though - how should it? I think that since people have heard that Jessie tends to boot faster (due to using systemd and assuming you can get systemd to work properly) they a...

Re: Send an email when a file is created

Yes. Remove the semicolon in front. It has the same effect as the "#" marks, telling the line not to be run. This is handy if you change your mind and want to disable sending photos or videos but think you might change your mind again. You can leave the whole line in and comment it out when you want...

Did you test to see if emails could be manually sent? Are the videos being properly saved by motion?? A little more information would help a lot.

Thanks for the suggestion but when I tried _netdev but it did not auto mount at boot up. I still have to go in and type "sudo mount -a" to get the NAS on the PI. I think there's also a problem with some of the current network updates. I seem to remember having the same issue after a recent update. ...

I have never made any changes to either of those files. [edit] This is a USB stick not a hard drive. Since the problem surfaced when you entered the UUID, take a good look at how you entered them into both files. Since the way you discovered it prints it out with single quote marks, I can see how y...

You don't specify if the USB hub has it's own power source. If it does not, do what DougieLawson recommends.

As already mentioned here, it does not use much power so it's useful for running services 24/7 wh...

Perhaps that's why so many companies have poor or broken websites ;) My youngest son (now 15) was writing HTML with a text editor five years ago. He created some weird stuff but got his web site to work. Knowing the basics before you use the GUI is much better than simply trusting the bloated stuff...
