Re: OTA TV in the US?

Is there a Pi HAT or USB device that can be used to receive Over The Air TV in the United States? I've been searching but have not found one. Easiest thing to do is start with Kodi, install tvheadend and find a Hauppauge WinTV USB TV Tuner. There is plenty of help out there if you look in the right...

Re: NAS-like Pi 4 server

...i'd also like to point out that I'm running nextcloudpi, plex media server, and RPI-Monitor on a 1gb board and only use on average 480mb of memory. 4GB is nice but not needed in my experience. Does not surprise me - a lot seems to depend on disk size and format. ZFS is a RAM hog but ext-4 seems ...

I rent a room in a house with nine tenants. We all share wireless internet provided by the landlord. Re: mounted external Hard Drive is not spinning

Daniel, You are using the wrong option, -y forces the drive into a low power state, try using -S which tells the drive to spin down after a specified amount of time of inactivity. If you were to use -Y option your drive would work as your expecting it to act, but the result is an immediate spindown....

Re: PiVPN(OpenVPN)

At the risk of sounding overly paranoid, I use mine all the time to surf the web while away from home. If i have a bad cellular connection, but have access to public wifi I will absolutely use my pivpn in that instance. In the past I used it primarily to access files remotely, however since finding ...

Re: SSH on External IP -- how to

So how to do I know if the external (ISP IP address) is fixed?....Yes I see it... Secondly when I putty from location a to server at location b, do I type my external ISP IP, my internal router IP or my fixed LAN address on my Pi to connect? Typically residential ISP's do not issue static IP addres...

Re: Home Network configuration question

Thanks for the feedback everyone.....so to follow-up: 1) I only intend to use pi zeros for the actual camera connections (I.e. connect a camera module to the zero, then usb-to-Ethernet adapter, then Ethernet back to a switch), not as a NAS. I also hope to use the pi zero’s GPIO pins as well (to may...

Re: Home Network configuration question

As for your NAS check out nextcloudpi(https://ownyourbits.com/nextcloudpi/). You may find that a zero with an ethernet adapter may be a bit slow. I was running pivpn with the same hardware and was only getting 10Mbps.

Re: RPi3 + DigiAMP+ & 2.1 sound?

In your situation i'd ditch the bookshelf speakers and get a bluetooth sound bar. You can get a bluetooth dongle for your pi and set Kodi to bluetooth audio output to connect to the sound bar. The RPi 3B has Bluetooth built in :? My apologies, I glossed over the fact that he is using a Pi3.

Re: NAS for IP camera streams

I can't answer that question for certain, you will need to set it up and run it for a while an see for yourself. Not knocking the raspberry pi at all here, but i've moved on from the raspberry pi to the rock64, it has dedicated gigabit lan, faster memory, and a usb3 port. I ran nextcloud from a 3 B ...

Re: problem trying to connect client to pivpn

It's been a while since i've fooled around with the setup you're running, but the problem is you are double NAT'd. You can see the whole network from R2, but when attached to R1 you cannot see anything on R2 unless you port forward. I run DD WRT on my routers, I think you need to set whatever port y...

Re: No internet or LAN access through OpenVPN (piVPN)

Ok, that was simple. Thanks default_user8. I had already added the push "route 192.168.2.0 255.255.255.0" as per a previous topic. All it took was the "local # your local subnet" line... Strange that piVPN doesn't add that in during the installation. It's meant to just work on install. Don't know w...

Your not allowing access to your local lan, here is a link to a server.conf file example that should help you. You're missing "# your local subnet

Re: VPN client comparisons/recommendations

I Second piVPN, been running it for over a year without a hitch. Originally ran it on a pi zero w, but have switched it over to a model 2 B running pihole, pivpn, and RPI-Monitor. Easy setup, easy to manage, and works great.

Did you start with pivpn or did you install openvpn server from apt? The default pivpn setup should work, but if not here is a link to a default server.conf file that should help.

Re: My Rpi wifi access point stops working after 7 days/1 week.

Hi, I've got a bit of an odd issue, I have a RPi2 along with a USB wifi adaptor, and I've got it set up to allow Wifi network access, and the RPi is connected to my LAN with an Ethernet cable. I used the official guide here: https://www.raspberrypi.org/documentation/configuration/wireless/access-po...

If you reserved 2 addresses in your router leave it set to auto, your router knows to look for the mac address associated with that ip address.

Re: Kodi 18 - Free VPN

The manager is installed in Kodi but the actual openVPN executable which it controls and sets up isn't, that's installed in the OS underneath. You can quite happily use it directly without the manager add-on via a shell or terminal if you want to, the manager just makes it easier within the GUI. Bu...

Re: Kodi 18 - Free VPN

Kodi doesn't need a VPN to work, at least for the kind of usage that it's designed for. And anyone stupid enough to think a "free" VPN provides any kind of safety or security should stop and think quite how their connect is funded. If you're not paying for it by cash then you're paying for it some ...

Are you locked in to using dropbox? Why not run your own dropbox type server with nextcloudpi, that way all your data is on your own server not someone else's.
