Yes it seems that the cards have come to the end of their read/write life, though some are "branded" I would not bet that are not cheap imitations. Another issue I have found that different devices seems to format them differently, so I would surmise it could be that not all manufacturers of devices...

Checking the http://www.openprinting.org/printers website seems it is not Linux friendly, and Canon do not appear to realise Linux exists...

AFAIAA the majority of current HP ePrinters are supported by the HPLIP Software / Sane which is available from the Raspbian Wheezy Repositories
