Re: Pi4 as Desktop computer

I think you're dreaming in Technicolor now
Not technicolour, white and that reddish/pink.
I did think of painting my monitors.

Is there a pantone number for the raspberry red?

Re: Fast turn off of a Pi in embedded applications

The Pi4 header pins are near USB-C connector, labelled Run and Global_en. or going to baremetal. I did that 2-3 years ago with Ultibo, that gave me fast 2 second turn on ;) There are ways to make Raspbian run from ram, if you know how. I have one old model A not connected to a network so time does n...

Re: Fast turn off of a Pi in embedded applications

I use the PiCore version of TinyCore Linux, but there is no Pi4 version yet. On older Pi's I just just pull the power anytime with PiCore. I don't dare do that with Raspbian. There is a new 3 pin header on the Pi4, i suspect it is usable for shutdown etc. There might be some write up somewhere for t...

Re: Data Logging, Plotting Help

I usually just collect the data into a csv file and once a day write it to SD. Lots of way to then plot csv data. Dygraphs.js is my webserver method. Basic shell script is used, cron for the daily writes, watch for running sensor reading script. Watch for grabbing the data, it calls a shell script t...

The guy above does have a point about Firefox being a steaming pile on the 4, but I avoid it so... I found it usable on a Pi3B+ with Gentoo64 and now the new Gentoo64 1.50 is working on Pi4 :D I expect Chromium and Firefox might be able to be tweaked a bit mote now. Just a few minutes ago this fan ...

I'm sitting here waiting for the post to bring me my 2GB Pi4 and this news pops up. Well done Sakaki. This muddle salutes you. Updated 20 seconds ago :o Er, that's after midnight UK time. This is all brilliant news, never tried Gentoo before, you've just tempted me ;) It is the best supported 64bit ...

zweiblum, thanks for that StarTrek video, I had forgotten that. Playing with the early Allophone speech chips I was so disappointed could never get good sounding voice. The early chat bots were text based, don't remember when or what computer I got a version of this on. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki...

Maybe I should make some combat robots and let the C++ ones fight the Rust ones.
Go against Free Pascal, see who makes the final.
Time for some Darwinian language evolution?
I have made good progress with VC6.
Baremetal 3D on VC6 :D

Not sure if I want my Pi's to get romantic, they already breed like tribbles.
Seem to remember someone made a hugging bot?
Maybe I should make one of those for the wife so she will then let me go back to working on my Pi's?

TPU filament might allow for 3D printing shapes that a pcb made on flexible aramid might be sandwiched into. Been lots of advances in Silicone softbotics molding but embedding wires is tricky. Re: VSCode Require Larger Swap File

I compile with 1000MB swap file on 3B+ and 4B1.

Hoping my new on it's way 2GB will not need that.
Got the new Power supply so I can use USB3 SSD too.
Will probably get best compile times on the 4GB model but no stock yet.

What is the best settings for the 2 and 4GB models?

Yep, sorry another one of my brain dumps.
Getting too far ahead, where Rusty robots take over the world from the old C ones.

Awesome! I appreciate the hard work you're putting into this. Lord knows I don't have the knowledge for it xP. Me neither, lucky there are some experts around. I've created a trivial patch to add bounce buffers on ARM64 for pcie-bcrmstb. What is trivial for these Linux wizards is magic to us mere m...

Re: Announce: RusPiRo - a kernel the Rust way ;)

Ordered another Pi4 yesterday, my usual supplier had 2GB in stock. I can use that for development and the 1GB for testing code. Graphics might be a bit hard at this early stage, but then I thought this would be useful for RISC-V based bots. There is new K210 based things coming out all the time. htt...

Sort QT out both might compile?

There is a bunch of methods that can do this. Most are analog so need Analog to Digital Converters to interface to Pi's Air pressure sensors, a tiny balloon is squeezed which changes the air pressure. or fluid. Touch sensors capacitive or resistive like smart phone screens. Membrane, like those flat...

Nanovg uses a shader that was coded into the source code as a string that's used to render all the shapes. That's cool, but another language to learn ;) OpenCL is supposed to work now and someone said there are compute shaders. Probably many ways to skin this cat. Just ordered my second Pi4 so I ca...

Chromium and Firefox both work in Gentoo64 on the Pi3B+. They kept swapping positions as the fastest browser over the 6+months I used them. The latest Raspbian Buster Chromium seems to have caught up and passed them. I expect that to change soon. Arch, Gentoo are both distributions that are rolling,...

If you're worried people might accidentally drill through a trace, don't be there's several mm gap surrounding the holes, 0.5mm is well away from any trace. The xray pictures show no copper near the mounting holes, so 0.5mm is nothing. The heads of 3mm screws are a bit bigger than 2.5mm screws so I...

You cannot do bare metal in Pi4 I can't because I don't have the skills, the time and enough info. That won't always be the case ;) but you still can do things without a window manager using Raspbian I want to try Wayland first and then without a windows manager. The Pi4 with OpenGL and shaders plus dual HDMI is now good enough for developing :D But what software tools run on Pi4? Most of those are 64bit? 64bit OS's are coming on Pi4 but not off the shelf yet. Will we see Unity/Unreal on Pi4's? It looks like the demand for the 4GB Pi4 is high, they are reaso...
