Re: How to run Freespace 2 Open on Raspberry PI 3

I'm sure VC4 had ETC1 compression. ETC2 compression is mandatory for OpenGLES3.0 so it will be in the VC6. Can S3TC be converted to ETC? Is the Pi4/VC6 fast emough not to need compression? Do a glxinfo and check the extensions? The new Raspbian mesa just got releases yesterday, that might help, it h...

Re: What is a good replacement for Etcher (ads and ignores privacy)

Every time I use Etcher to write a Pi image I have to go through three level of permissions in Win10.
I am so sick of that.

Perhaps the next version of the Pi Keyboard can be USB 3 with an uSD card writer built in?

If it was a hard floor then a piezo sensor can be very sensitive to vibration. Mini earthquake detector. Pressure mats under carpet would work But capacitance sensors might work too, based on touch screen tech. It seems everyone make capacitive touch based chips these days. Two/three parallel wires ...

I thought S3TC was designed for GPU hardware decompression.
As far as I know S3TC was not in the Videocore IV and probably not the VI.

Re: Stereoscopic Camera Vision Auto Focus

I have used the jpeg image size to focus camera lenses driven by steppers. In a fixed lighting room and same image the biggest jpeg is the most focused. Dambuster Lancasters used two spot light to determent distance above the water. You can get laser sensors VL53xxx that will get you distance withou...

Re: Pi4 as Desktop computer

PC overclockers would be trilled with a 33% speed increase. Some Pi users expect more? I got one early Pi3B+ that I need to underclock to 1350MHz, no big deal. Keeps me on my toes when I confuse it with the other Pi3B+ that is fine at 1400. Pi4's are so much faster I have not even bothered touching ...

That link to OMV4 boots on a Pi3B+ and PI4.
No idea how to use it yet.
Perhaps OMV5 will be freindlier?

Is the Pi4B1 the best choice?
Most NAS don't seem to have much memory.

Re: knowledge is power

OMV on Pi4 cool, thanks for link. A little knowledge is a dangerous thing. When you get more knowledge you realise you know nothing. Raspberry Pi Foundation is supposed to check every single application on every Pi and let you know? The RPF's stated mission is to promote learning. Give you the fish ...

60fps :D Yep fake kms at the moment, too messy to go into those reasons. Screenshot please. A lot of those older games were before OpenGL shaders came out in hardware. The VC6 in the Pi4's have the new shaders, even compute shaders apparently. The latest Mesa 19.3 I think has the 3.1 compute shaders...

Re: Baremetal compilers

Found the Gentoo on Arm forum, lots of things to try from reading those posts :D So do I use this new Pi4B4 as a compiler/emerge box or do I use the old Pi4B2? Is there any benefit to using the 4B4 for compiling compilers? Or will a 2GB one be enough? Will it need a big swap file? Do I boot from uSD...

I remember years ago reading UWB, Ultra Wide Band radar can be range gated. ie set a perimeter distance or electronic fence. The ST VL53.... laser distance sensors could be used but they are more spot types unless you scan them. 3D camera(Kinect)? I compiled the Kinect 360 OpenKinect code on a PI4, ...

FlightGear will run on Pi4's. It uses OpenGL and it is based on OpenSceneGraph and a bunch of other dependencies. OpenSceneGraph will build for Android too and use OpenGLES. There is a Cessna in the OpenSceneGraph examples that works, even a version on fire ;) Linux Air Combat Sim will build and run...

OpenGL has been running on Pi3's in Gentoo64 for 2 years? That's a 64bit OS but the same VC4. Buster will have newer Mesa drivers and be compiled for 32bit. So a lighter OS like PiCore with the newer Mesa drivers would be fastest VC4 OpenGL solution? How much performance difference is there between ...

First time poster? There is now more than one 64bit OS for Pis and Gentoo64 has been working for 2 years on the Pi3B's. 64bit OS's have been a bit DIY, time will fix that and there will be more Linux and other Distributions that just work. Aarch64 OS's and "all" the software that might run on them a...

Sounds like the OP has run into "it works, so don't change anything" manager type. It works in WindowsXP embedded, don't change anything. I saw case of that last week. Companies have vested interests in minimising changes, change is scary? Or change could cost them money. Myth - Object coding leads ...

Sakaki, what is the trick to setting up cross compilers in Gentoo? I want to get baremetal compilers for 64bit aarch64 Pi's and the 32bit armhf Pi's I understand the no libc/kernel stuff, that bit is fine. Not sure about the portage.make.conf bit. sudo crossdev --stable -t arm-none-eabi- - * crossde...

Interesting link.
Never say "Never"?

Has MS noticed that the third biggest selling "PC" is a tiny SBC coming from the UK?
Have they noticed kids are growing up using them and learning Linux by osmosis?
The writing is on the wall for MS and has been for years.
