Re: raspbian hex editor

You can look in the GUI software menu choice and search to see what Raspbian suggests to install.
That will install it and add a menu/desktop Icon for it.

Not much memory to do anything, Chromium is a hog.
I found a 1GB swap file helped on 3B+.
But a 2 or 4GB Pi4 is better :D

Re: Using the pi as my main computer

Warzone2100 is the main game I play. Used to play it on my Celeron box which died the week my 1st Pi4 arrived. WZ is not playable on Buster but is very playable on Gentoo64. So it is not just hardware that needs considering, it is OS and OpenGL driver versions. 0AD does not work on a 1GB Pi's, it do...

Re: Raspberry Pi 3 Crashes after 20 mins of python script running

I had Python software loop memory issues year ago.
Never bothered to find out why, I used free to watch memory disappear.
Found other ways that worked instead.
Now I tend to use watch or cron for datalog triggering.

I got Supertuxkart working. Some graphics needs work, it popped up a warning but still ran fine. The kid had no complaints playing it. It was on Gentoo64 which had a later version of Mesa at that time. I prefer to put OpenGL games on Gentoo64, they seem to work better there at the moment. Mesa is ge...

Years ago there was a third party PCB with a BCM2835 and camera/lens on the one PCB. It was quickly shut down, but it is too bad RPF did not run with that, the OpenCV industry would have liked it? Re: Pi4 64-bit raspbian kernel for testing - Focus on Pi4

On Gentoo64 I have the reverse problem, compiling for 32bit Pi's on Aarch64.
Using Buildroot was the first thing that worked for me.

Native Arm compiling?
Run 32bit compilers on 32bit OS, run 64bit on 64bit OS, that works.

But VC example rpi4 Not easy
VC4 examples won't work on Pi4 VC6.

Normal OpenGL examples works pretty good on the Pi4.
Try the Mesa3D demo examples.
Many OpenGL tutorials examples should work depending on the libraries.
FreeGLUT is not bad.

...AMD HIP or NVIDIA CUDA
Call it OpenCL?

I think for the Pi4 Mesa OpenGL, SPIR-V, NIR, LLVM are involved.

OpenCL is just one part of this alphabet soup.
More is known about the QPU assembler code now as it is exposed in the Mesa source.

I am throwing stuff at Pi4's that are serious Development apps. If they break I can rebuild the OS, so no big deal. On a normal PC I tend to be more protective and conservative. I am finding Pi4's are better than a Desktop because there is a lower risk of bricking and less cost involved? Learning fa...

I forgot to add I built the SiFive RISC-V OS while I was doing a genup.
The 4GB Pi4 made it through that stress test :D
All four cores maxed out and most of the memory in use.

Any trick to getting FreeCAD 19 working, that version is very new? I have been busy with BuildRoot making Linux Kernel/OS's for Pi0-1's and SiFive boards. Making kernels has now been ticked off my list. By the time USB boot drives are working on PI4's there will be a lot of software that just works....

And a Compute4 is still ????

Who said that?
The decision was made that there will never be a Pi4A.

Never say never?

Why not a Model 4A but with a USB 3 connector connected to the PCI-e pins. USB2 via the USB-C like the existing Pi4B. Still keep the Model 3A+ footprint, but wit...

More stress testing the Pi4 /Gentoo64 Desktop PC combo :D Can Gentoo64 and a Pi4B4 compile a Pi Linux OS. Yes it can. This did not work on Buster or a Pi3B+ or 16GB uSD. I ended up with a new Gentoo64 1.5.1 on a 32GB uSD. Downloaded and unzipped the Buildroot tool https://buildroot.org/download.html...

Re: Pi 4B 2019 - after extensive usage shows a thermometer on the TOP/RIGHT Corner

The thermometer is normal, working hard in closed case without heatsink and fan will do this.

I usually have a small heatsink and the top off the case, this keeps temp down around 60C.
Not much cooling is needed, if I have the room roof fan on it cools down to 40+C.

GTK? probably mssing library.
