Re: USB Stick Duplicator - How?

I want to create a way to easily duplicate a USB stick. ... dd if=/dev/sdX of=/dev/sdY bs=4M However, Would this option allow the ability to create a folder for the data from the stick being copied to the new stick? Or is there a better bit of code to be using? It would be helpful if you could clar...

Re: Is what I want to do with Pi B possible?

That all sounds quite doable with a couple of caveats. 1) You'll need to be able to access a spare input on the hotel TV, and be able to switch to it. This might not always be possible, so I'd have a backup option in mind. You should be able to do all this with the laptop anyway. 2) Streaming via wi...

Re: Uploading video file from web application to Raspberry P

Hi, I am very new to Raspberry Pi. Might be a silly question :(. But really looking for some info on the below. I have to upload a video from my web site (hosted on an apache server in a remote location) to a raspberry pi 2 (Model B 1GB) device OR to any raspberry device, over internet. Need some i...

Is there a way to get my laptop on one WiFi network to talk to another device connected to another WiFi network bearing in mind the router and pi are connected using an Ethernet cable? The networking details you provide are rather vague, so I'll try to help, but I might be guessing wrong. I'll assu...

Re: Researching into possibilities of Pi2 as cloud storage

This first I seem to get conflicting arguments for, none of the answers I've found relate to the Pi 2. Will I be able to power a portable hard drive via the USB ports on a Pi2? I plan to purchase the Pi 2 Starter Kit from Pimoroni which includes a 2A PSU, and pair it with a WD 2TB Elements Portable...

Re: RPi to RPi networking

You've mentioned the Control device, and the ROV, and what travels from one to the other. You haven't mentioned anything about what's in between. Are they connected via cable? Air? Water? Vacuum? How far apart will they be? The answers to these questions will make a huge difference to the 'networkin...

Best option is to set up ssh access to your Pi & access VNC via ssh [google for lots of info on this].
This is what the vncviewer -via option is for.

Yea I realise the problem isn't with the Pi, but just thought someone with a Pi on here might have had the same problem or know or a good guide to it. Why would I get a rude response on a kodi forum if asking about 1channel? Nobody here knows if they have the "same problem" as you haven't clearly s...

Re: A question about business use

Doug, that's why I italicized might. There are currently people using LibreOffice on the Pi, so maybe Microsoft Office will run on the Pi. Surely there will be people who try it. Keep in mind that the Pi runs a completely different processor to your x86 based desktop PC, and therefore any Windows s...

As you don't even mention what software distribution you have installed, it's unlikely that anyone will be able to offer help. However I second the view that you should really be asking these questions in a forum related to the software you're running, as your problems really have nothing to do with...

Re: How to make Raspberry Pi to act as an Ethernet switch?

Now imagine that I have five (or more) such pairs "RPi plus Device X" and you'll understand why I would want to get rid of the switch, if possible - I could buy five USB-Ethernet dongles instead of five 3 port switches. Theoretically, I could also connect the Device X through a separate Ethernet ca...

Re: Raspberry Pi as a router with only one Ethernet port

This is quite doable, and is more of a linux question than a raspberry pi question. You can do this quite happily with a single ethernet port, provided you can configure your router to forward the requisite stuff to the Pi - does the router allow a port range to be forwarded? That might be a simple ...

Re: The Joy of "RASPBMC"

I was very impressed with the new “RASPBMC” media player card. Wouldn't it be a good idea, for a future version, if the boot partition was expanded to the card's remaining size on first use so as to allow an ordinary Windows PC to use this to receive a directory full of mp4 movie files. Not really ...

Ideally I'd like her to be able to insert the SD card from the SLR into the RPi and it then auto copies the newly taken pics to the HD to into a new folder. What do you think? This bit won't work with the RPi as-is, it needs the SD card in place in order to run. You could arrange something like thi...

Now, I had to see that the sound level is far too silent. I have to turn up the volume of the speakers to about 40% to have normal "room adjusted sound level" ( Zimmerlautstärke ). At the same time, there is a very unpleasant humming background noice (50 Hz power "noice"? I've heard that power some...

Would a single Pi be able to handle all of this (Obviously not at the same time in most use cases)? Should I get one for each task? Re: Need some help on multiple media centres

There are a few variables to consider here. Firstly there's the fileserver. I run a setup like this with three Pi clients & a Pi fileserver. You might run into bandwidth issues if you serve 5 clients simultaneously from a Pi. If you have a PC or NAS serving files then that shouldn't be an issue. The...

If you have wifi issues like this, take a look at the output of dmesg - chances are you don't have the correct firmware for your wifi module. If you download & install the correct firmware it will start working.

Re: pi on a car battery?

The question is impossible to answer with the information given. You need to know the usable amp-hour rating of the battery, then you need to know the efficiency of each conversion step. On top of that you need a good idea of the current the Pi is actually drawing [this depends on what it's doing]. ...
