Re: View remote RPi web-interface over SSH tunnel?

There are three IP addresses. 1. 127.0.0.1 which is the loopback address aka localhost. DO NOT USE THIS. Don't disable it, but forget it ever existed unless you are using ssh tunnels with PuTTY or something similar. Since port forwarding with ssh is what he asked about, telling him not to use this ...

Re: Access to dirs on a NFS server

Let me give an example: All files I want to access are stored on /home/video/ on the NFS server. This dir is included as "/videos" on the rasbmc side, Now, on the side of rasbmc I can eg access the dir /videos/videosprivate or /videos/private, but not /videos/public. Can somebody please give me an ...

Yes and No.

Yes, with enough work and possibly quite a bit of electronics, it would be possible.

However in practical terms, unless the device has a composite, HDMI or DVI input, it's unlikely to be worth the effort.

You can use rsync to do this. It also has an option to delete the original file after the copy.

Re: Port Forward Raspberry pi

It's difficult to work out from your question exactly what you're trying to do or what your problem is. Why do you think you need port forwarding? It sounds like you simply have an issue with routing, in which case what you want is IP forwarding. If you want to pass traffic A->B->C you will need IP ...

Re: RaspBMC Data Consumption

I've installed RaspBMC on my Raspberry Pi Model B, that's connected via RCA to my TV - as a media center. I've also enabled IPTV for Live TV, but it seems that the data consumption is really high. I would like to regulate this without affecting the performance of the Pi or my TV(media) experience. ...

That should be quite achievable. I can get 10MB/s over a power line adapter with no problem.

Re: RPi as a DVR for OTA TV, is it possible?

Really!?! Well I'd love to know your secret. CPU is never a problem, top reports that tvheadend remains under 20% during active recording. But memory - within a few minutes of recording tvheadend has consumed >90% of the system RAM. How are you saving your video files? To a local USB storage device...

Re: RPi as a DVR for OTA TV, is it possible?

The problems all stem from tvheadend, which is A) difficult to setup and B) difficult to run reliably on the limited resources of the Pi. Consider that ATSC digitial TV is about 5GB/hour in size. I agree that tvheadend can take a bit of setting up. One of the challenges is that each country has a m...

Re: Horrific Raspberry Pi NAS Speeds

So yeah any solutions would be great, thanks. Before leaping in with solutions, you need to identify the problem. I use a Pi as a file server [amongst other things], and the speeds you're seeing are much less than I get. Firstly the most obvious thing to to is run a test with a wired link in place ...

SD cards are in general a lot slower than USB flash devices, so I'd avoid them.

Would a Pi running raspbmc be able to operate normally (watch a video file from USB without slowdown and remain responsive) while serving another video file out to a second Pi? Re: Why is no XBMC distro working?

But it must be a GOOD 1A. Sadly you can't just rely on the PSU label to tell you this. A Pi [without high consumption USB devices] will happily run on 1A, but the bottom line is PSU must be able to maintain a regulated 5V with the load you're giving it [and the load changes depending on what the Pi...

Check all files in download folder. Compare to log file, ignore matches. Convert files not previously logged, save roku friendly files in "watchable folder" Log conversion. I think there will have to be 2 logs. "done" and "to-do". If in "done", ignore, else add to "to-do". Do "to-do". Log in "done"...

I want to try each distro to determine which is going to work the best for my needs as a DVR. I'm going to blog about each as I try them. I'm hoping to test 1 to 2 distros a week, so hopefully I'll have the last one done before October. Once this whole process is done, I'm going to do a followup po...

When raspbmc starts up, it will run XBMC - it appears in your case that XBMC is quitting immediately on startup. Most likely you either have a corrupt SD card image, or an inadequate power supply.

Yes, it will work . However the drive will be formatted NTFS. You will get much lower CPU load on the pi if you reformat the drive to ext4 before using it.
