Re: Daisy Chaining Network Switches Question

+1 on most consumer switches don't have STP. Before I graduate, I didn't even know STP exist. Then I worked 4 month for an industrial switch maker, it told me those STP magic. I'd add some point: STP can not "immediately" enable route. It needs time to make the decision. 2 min if I remember correctl...

Re: r8153 USB NIC adapter eth interface names not consistent

I've checked my own Realtek 8153 dongle, they get reset on startup either. ;) I'm using a different hub than yours (1a40:0101 Terminus Technology Inc. 4-Port HUB).

I don't have an environment to test those VLAN setup, so can't help there.

Have fun!

Re: r8153 USB NIC adapter eth interface names not consistent

To make sure a specific network interface has a constant name, we could create a /etc/udev/rules.d/z99-my_rules.rules with: ATTR{address}=="12:34:56:78:90:ab", NAME="wan" This would give the name "wan" to the device who has a MAC address 12:34:56:78:90:ab. ip link would tell you the MAC address. And...

I recently compiled ffmpeg for Pi, version is git-2017-04-05-d8eb40b. I followed a cross-compile instruction on ffmpeg's site: https://trac.ffmpeg.org/wiki/CompilationGuide/RaspberryPi Cross-compile should be much faster than native compile on Pi herself. There is pre-compiled binary for tool chain,...

While the steps in this post is not necessary to install a new image, as the above post said, you could directly write a new image to overwhite the old one. I'm posting for saying it's possible to reformat with Linux. (maybe MacOS also? I dont know) To erase the card: sudo dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/mm...

Official distributor in China(element14) told me that they don't ship to individual. Their web site would ask if I am a company or not, and direct me to local third party vendor.

Luckily, local vendor is selling Pi 0 W here.

Re: DHCPCD Help

In fact, without DHCP nor static IP, the Pi should still reachable via its link local address when connected, aka 169.254.x.y. To know the exact number of x and y, you could ask for "raspberrypi.local", then the mDNS would resolve the name to numbers. So with no DHCP nor static IP, just connecting t...

I don't know if --rebind or --release would work or not either. If you really care the Micro SD card content, maybe do a backup first would be better. Don't worry, --rebind won't hurt. dhcpcd --rebind is exist. It's the first Google hit with a title "There is nothing here..." do not mean it's not exist, you could click that link, then you could see a web page telling you --rebind is there. You could read man page on Pi either. "man dhcpcd" would say about --rebind either: -n, --re...

Re: Auto run c program in Rpi 3

If you just want it to run, nor more requirement, then you could edit /etc/crontab, add some line like @reboot root /bin/echo none > /sys/class/leds/led1/trigger This would execute "/bin/echo none > /sys/class/leds/led1/trigger" as root when reboot. If you want something like "run my program after n...

Re: how to auto login in SSH

Yes, you would need a key pair. The idea is that when Pi ask you a question, a program would answer it for you, so you feel like automatically logged in. The program is called an "agent". In Windows, you could use "pageant.exe". You would need to generate a pair of keys. One is called the public key...

This hdparm thing looks fantastic. There is a -M parameter, which would work on Automatic acoustic management. As you said tcp6, if it's not working, then it worth a try to initialize the ServerSocket object with the bind address "0.0.0.0". This should force things run on IPv4. I havn't write Java for years, so just give it a try. While to my understanding, listening on IPv6 address "::" should handle IPv4 c...

It's in fact, the rpi-update would upgrade not only the kernel, but also a lot of stuff which I couldn't name them all, such as /boot/bootcode.bin

So if you want to restore everything, maybe ktb's command line is better.
