Re: How do I view raspivid files on windows

Code: Select all

ffmpeg -i in.h264 -c copy out.mp4
avconv -i in.h264 -c copy out.mp4
optionally "-r 30" to specify frame rate.

Re: Stereoscopic Raspberry Pi Camera ISSUE!

Are you sure you know what I mean with latency? It has nothing to do with smoothness.

If you want to do the project that you want to do, then latency is a key factor. If you want a coherent self-percept then delays can ruin the effect completely.

Did you measure? otherwise, perceptual judgement of latency can be fallible.

This *was* with "raspivid -t 0"

Re: Stereoscopic Raspberry Pi Camera ISSUE!

I can't get mjpeg to work with GStreamer. They have an odd way of mapping V4l driver pixel formats to so-called GStreamer caps based on MIME types, like this gst-launch-1.0 -e v4l2src ! video/x-h264,width=1280,height=720,framerate=30/1 ! ... gst-launch-1.0 -e v4l2src ! video/x-raw,format=I420,width=...

Re: Stereoscopic Raspberry Pi Camera ISSUE!

Actually, the register I htin this is is specifically defined to be an input. I can try it as an output to see if it breaks anything, but I have no way of testing whether it actually does anything. There are a couple of other registers than refer to vsync, but the docs are extremely vague so no ide...

Re: Stereoscopic Raspberry Pi Camera ISSUE!

Also, I’m wondering if my approach of capturing 1280x720 and scaling both to half-width (2x 640x720) side-by-side is the best, or only, way. I tried 2560x720, but that overloaded my weak graphics card too much. Actually, that was bullshit. What is needed is for the left and right halfs of the Oculu...

Re: Saving Timelapse directly on remote server?

Well, personally I’ve been writing full 5mp jpegs per second (or rather 1.2s on average) onto NFS for a month or so. But that is on Gigabit Ethernet. That amounts to 120G of jpegs per day that are cooked down to H264 every morning over a few hours. All because the FoV is not wide enough in video mode.

Re: Stereoscopic Raspberry Pi Camera ISSUE!

I think that you can make the picture clearer and get more field of view by putting a fish lens or wide angle lens on the camera. Maybe, but I don’t think so. These basically crappy spectacles tend to muddle things up even more. Binned full sensor video would be better: Start from as rectilinear wi...

Re: Stereoscopic Raspberry Pi Camera ISSUE!

So, I have made it work with the approach I thought up on the fly, using GStreamer only. It definitely works. The two images are in bang-on synch for long stretches of time until when there's a glitch and they drift apart suddenly (which looks fun as well, like being drugged or something). I'm still...

Re: Official V4L2 driver

split each frame into multiple slices to reduce the proportion of the picture that an error can affect. There should be minimal difference in latency between MJPEG and H264 if you aren't using B-frames in the H264 encoder. There's always lookahead latency for H264. Intra-refresh is mentioned in the...

Re: Stereoscopic Raspberry Pi Camera ISSUE!

I think I will try this out in my lab tomorrow. I have two cams. I just need to find a second free RPi. We have a Rift lying around too. With GStreamer, accurate V4l2 timestamps and NTP synch this should be possible. Just plug together some RTP pipelines on the terminal, combine with videobox side-b...

Re: How to turn off auto-anything?

No no, 10000 * 100 microseconds is the lower bound. I was merely talking about 1 second exposure times. It is even registered in the driver controls: exposure_time_absolute (int) : min=1 max=10000 step=1 default=1000 value=10000 Of course, if even longer times were possible I wouldn't complain. By t...

Re: How to turn off auto-anything?

It is per 100usec. See here: http://www.raspberrypi.org/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?p=471657#p471657 It actually exposes this long. I can get fairly good exposure in a dark room. The fps set on the video device is an upper bound, i.e., it never goes above 30fps if you set 30, but it goes slower depending w...

Re: How to turn off auto-anything?

Actually, when using the V4l2 driver, the frame rate changes by virtue of the set manual exposure time. When I set exposure_time_absolute=10000 I get 1 fps.

Just a data point even before the raw/compressed flag was added I could stream and store H264 with Gstreamer. Not sure why that guy above had a negotiation error, my example was with the newest gst-launch on Arch.

I have tried a number of variations of the above but the latency is much greater than hoped for. I am told it is VLC, is there another alternative? Thank you. Noob Question: What is the difference between the official V4L2 and the UV4L http://www.linux-projects.org/modules/news/ Which one should I use? I'd go with UV4L.
