prepare for a reboot is only half the job, should prepare for any stop ( incl. powerfail) so the program ?python? what operates your GPIO + timers + operator input should keep a SETPOINT file ( only a (closed) file survives ) so at all setpoint changes AND periodically ( 5min ) for elapsing timers.....

TO WHAT?

with ssh file gone we can be sure RPI is booting to RASPBIAN
but if it not goes ONLINE ( by WIFI or cable to router ) you need to use HDMI/keyboard/mouse
