Re: Project Guidance

The pi would be overkill for that project... The Pi may be overkill, but it's perfect for hosting a website. ;) I'm not sure everyone can program a webserver on a microcontroller. :? Laurens True I skimmed over the pi hosting the web site... but if the pi hosts the site it's not going to be cheaply...

The rpi works at 700 million times per second, but your sensors may have limits of over a second so choose wisely.

Re: Primary and Secondary Network (Subnetwork?) with RPi

2 iptables rules will keep your sub-nets isolated, something like this:

Code: Select all

iptables -A INPUT -s 192.168.0.0/24 -d 192.168.1.0/24 -j DROP
iptables -A INPUT -d 192.168.0.0/24 -s 192.168.1.0/24 -j DROP

It's more like $300 by the time you get something usable like a raspberrypi.
The cheapest thing I've found in that speed class (usb3) is the MiraBox or ODROID-XU3 for $150 or $179.

tc has policing for inbound traffic which will trigger nice clients to slow down... or you can just convert inbound to outbound and use shaping on that.

Try running top and watch tail /var/log/* to see what happens just before hanging.

As stated "Type the following to flush the old rules from the ip NAT table" removing the old rules is intentional.

Code: Select all

sudo service tor status
tail /var/log/tor

Re: Please recommend me a SoC

If DRM is just used as a sales pitch and you don't care about laws, why not just put DRM in a rpi? If you want android without needing to port it use an allwinner soc like the cubox, ect.

Re: OMXPlayer in background

Graduate from beeing spoon fed by learning to use man;

Code: Select all

man tmux
You might want something like this:

Code: Select all

tmux new -s omxp -d omxplayer my/file.mp4
Though I doubt ssh is the issue, it sounds more like your buffer is to small or the stream should be less vbr.

Re: Who did it - connect ext. HDD w/o active USB hub to Pi B

1) using 2 ports on the pi won't help.
2) usb3 won't make a difference
3) it depends on your psu, you may need upwords of 5A.

Yah I only used the repo because the default did not come with a native compiler. No idea why the default is not the latest stable.... I started with an empty drive and will see what it's like when I fill it to 30GB. ( more if that unlimited educational thing happens). It's extra slow because I'm us...

- Use Raspian as Raspbmc has some annoying customizations (Openssh replaced, etc) - 8GB microSDHC class 10 will be plenty if you are putting data on an external drive. - Use the default 2 partitions and ext4 FS - Use LVM+ext4 on the USB HD. - Put all data on the USB HD (you can mount --bind over any...
