Re: Anyone make a Thermal camera

Has anyone made or has bought a thermal camera? I do a lot of flood repair in construction and want to make a tool that's cheaper than commercially available thermal imaging devices. If you know a company that can and would make them, please contact them ASAP. If a company is making them, isn't tha...

Re: Raspberry pi laptop conversion

Now it is true that not all laptop LCDs can be re-purposed as there may not be a compatible driver board available for them, but so far I've had no problems finding driver boards for the laptop LCDs I had laying around the shop (thank you Google, Ebay and Amazon :D ). On a couple of the LCDs I was ...

That's not strictly true. Starting with a copy of plain Raspbian 2017-03-02 can eliminate any problems that may have been caused by "amateurs mucking about" with a complex software system. Working from a known base means things should start from a consistent position. What you are saying is true an...

Core functions means all the functions except the ones you need, I've learned that much. I think that's what you meant to say ? PeterO You are exactly correct, I certainly did mean to say that. Is my RPi holding some bogus settings that I can't find or clear out? Am I left with a complete system reinstall to clear this out? It's almost never the right move to just start over because then you can't use the case to learn from. Obviously if random files are corrupt or deleted, starting over ...

How on earth do I write this .tar on an sd card ? A tar file contains files in a directory structure like you might write them on magnetic tape. To install Arch, you need to prepare the sd card, not like John Cage prepared his pianos, rather in the manner of the instructions likely provided elsewhe...

Oh, and if you want to nitpick, "In stock" and "Sold Out" are inconsistent in whether the second word is capitalized - could change one or the other to match. Or he could go whole hog with sold out IN STOCK That way, at a glance, folks can see which locations have stock and which do not. Bend capit...

PowerShell is a Windows thing. Apparently they are porting powershell to linux. I'm not sure what that really means, it seems like a good lot of it is focused on things that are only in windows. But then they've also released powershell for the slight versions of windows, e.g. Win10 IOT, but it onl...

Just a general question. Why is Powershell so overly complex compared to scripting in Bash? Powershell attempts to include the underlying scripting language and an all powerful standard library all at once. Bash doesn't worry about having any libraries. And we know that powershell's library isn't y...

This doesn't seem like a putty question, more just a command line one. If you suffix your command with a

&

then you will get control back. But do you want to lose control of the program you started or do you have another plan for that?

Yes, the plastic "notebook" style housing for a Pi is about to hold an iPhone. The pi isn't a phone, what are you referring to? Try using the full path to the python executable. when you say executable that refers to the python script; in my case MyDHT22.py? The reason is that cron doesn't necessarily have the environment that you think it might have. You are using the root crontab so that isn't going to be exactly the same...
