Re: Raspberry Pi 4 usb boot?

Still no movement on booting RPi4 from usb....they dont seem to realise that to some users boot speed and reliabilty are important, come on guys you promised that this feature would be added, if it doesnt come soon we will be into Rpi 5 already Q. Do you think we are stupid A. No, we are not, and s...

Re: Pi 3 A +. What is it for?

By way of some perspective, think about this: If you start writing software, in Python or whatever, at a young age and you do it tenaciously everyday for your entire life you will be hard pressed to have written 10MB of code before you drop dead at the keyboard. That leaves almost 500MB of space in...

Re: Raspberry Pi Cluster Computer?

Actually - I was considering having two Pis (due to memory constraints of one): one connected to monitor and keyboard running X windows and another on network using first as X terminal. Also, first (with SSD) would share disk over nfs (at least /home if not more!). That way I would be able to decide...

In theory there are plenty of possibilities but in practical terms nobody has implemented it, yet.

Re: Help installing JDownloader2 on Raspberry Pi 3

It is coming with wrong jre packged in tar.gz... If you really want to install it I would suggest do it somehow yourself using existing jre on the Raspbian itself. To give you head start - you can extract tar.gz file from downloaded sh file (x86 version) with: tail -c 52745465 ../JD2Setup_x86.sh > s...

Adding ext4 support to the firmware is a non-starter.
Nor makes any sense as ext4 might end up being some other fs type easily, while making /boot fixed to vfat is the nicest, the lowest common denominator...

Re: Using the pi as my main computer

There is somewhere on the forums, an adapter board that uses multiple RPis, been a while since I saw it, but something like that might work - but it would be easier to wait for the RPi4 to get all its software & drivers sorted out, & use a 4GB version - that should run pretty good, once sorted. 8-)...

if the board provides a microcontroller in addition to the chg340 usb to serial chip, it could be programmed (my first email suggested using an arduino) to do the serial to spi conversion
You could probably re-program it - but why since it's already coming with fully implemented solution?

Re: How to use nRF24 via CH340T serial-to-USB converter?

LOL - too much disinformation floating here... spi requires a clock signal, which is NOT available on a serial port. Of course it does and µController on CH340T board will provide one. I was never saying that TX and RX lines from serial are directly connected to MOSI and MISO lines :P Of course you ...

it seems that Alex has found (with help of others) winning combination how to build FreeCAD (the latest from master - 0.19) that runs on Pi4 (Buster).

Re: How to use nRF24 via CH340T serial-to-USB converter?

Huh - my previous post has gone missing. Never mind - gist was as following: I think (*think*) serial here is used instead of SPI - actually adapter sends everything it received from serial to SPI relaying back all (in turn) received back from SPI(*) Also, one of control serial lines CTS/RTS or DTR/...

Re: How to use nRF24 via CH340T serial-to-USB converter?

I'm currently (I mean - actively - today!) using nRF24L01 connected directly to SPI of RPi. With Raspberry Pi you really don't need USB adapter. There are plenty of other examples all over the internet :) BTW Right now on my desk I can see 4 nRF24L01 connected - 2 to 2 Raspberry Pis and 2 to ATmega3...

Some improvements have made it to the release MESA libraries already, there are others still to work their way through the system.
Looking forward giving it a try when they get released, too. This one (very imprecise measurement) brought almost (or over!) 50% speed up for pixel manipulation.

If you don't need to copy root to your image (on HD) - even better - you just need to update `/boot/cmdline.txt` and that's all!

Interesting (and accurate) set of instructions. I always sudo su - to get a full login shell, where PATH is setup correctly, and I'd recommend removing the 'noatime' from the root stanza in /etc/fstab as it's quite useful and doesn't have the same issues on a proper HD that it does on an SD card (b...

I genuinely *do* know.

Anyway, maybe the version of raspbian I'm using is a little broken. Who knows...
Mine was pretty much vanilla Raspbian + extra packages I installed when needed. And I just didn't pay attention to what I was installing. Sorry :)
