Re: shadows

Hi I mean the shadowed texst in raspis GUI. The characters are two colored, you can change the colors but this makes the text "fuzzy". Its especially irritating when reading large docs. on the net! Hope this clearify my question. Jan Only partly. Do you mean in standard console or in X-windows ? Are...

Re: Correct way to update software

The normal "upgrade" will never install additional packages, so you will sometimes get the report that certain packages are "held back". When you have some packages "held back" you can either install some of them manually, or do a "dist-upgrade" which will install the new packages required to do the...

Re: Set video output window size?

If you look at the comitted code you will see that the following commandline option is added:

printf(" --win \"x1 y1 x2 y2\" Set position of video window\n");

Probably you can specify top-left and bottom-right position of the window.

my goal is to be able to play games off of my desktop like skyrim and minecraft, any help would be greatly appreciated. :D Splashtop is designed to stream the desktop almost like a video, this makes it very good at handling mulitmedia and games. Re: A plea for help - x11vnc Autostart

What you can do is make a script with two commands. #!/bin/bash sleep 25 x11vnc -rfbauth /home/pi/.vnc/passwd -forever -noipv6 -display :0 You then call this script in local.rc with a '&' at the end, then the script will run in the background, it will take a 25 sec pause so the X can start and then ...

Re: Qt5 looses keyboard focus !

Its quite hard to know if its a general problem with Qt5 or just your build. Have you tried using some pre-built Qt5 libraries ? The repo at http://twolife.be/rasbian has newly built v5.0.1 libraries. If you give me access to your binaries (or source) I can maybe test both of my Qt5 enabled Pis. I h...

Re: can videos be played from a usb stick?

File-names with space in them can be used if you:
- use " around the whole name: "/media/store n go/movie.mp4"
- or use \ in front of spaces: /media/store\ n\ go/movie.mp4

( the \ character is called "escape" and has to be used if filename contains strange characters. ( space ! $ \ ) )

Re: Boost Raspberry Pi for displaying kiosk browser

A browser based on Qt5 Webkit2 could be the answer, you can skip the whole X-windows stuff and have proper OpenGLES acceleration.

I haven't found a working webkit library yet, will try to build one myself one day.

Inspecting files 101: First use 'less', if its a text file or script it will show the file. If its a program it will probably warn you that you are trying to show a binary file. If you still show the file it may have strange effects on your terminal, these can be corrected by entering 'reset'. If it...

Re: Unhelpful catch 22 situations, a pi needs drivers 2 b on

So etherneting a pi from a pc on a wirless network to get internet causes ip conflicts, see this link if you dont believe me http://www.raspberrypi.org/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=62&t=31084#p269681 It *may* cause ip-conflicts. If you set up ICS correctly or use the network-bridge functionality in newer...

Re: Python and NFC

If you have the libnfc compiled and working like in the adafruit example then I guess the next step would be to install "pynfc" from here. http://code.google.com/p/pynfc/ I see that this code is somewhat old so if it works with the newest libnfc I dont know. An alternative might be this python modul...

Re: Hard Drive as Primary Memory Source?

You dont mean Memory (RAM) but disk-space I guess. Why does the external disk need to be "main" space ? Which would for me be the the disk where the PI boots from. Getting the PI to boot from an external disk is possible but unecessary complicated if all you need is some more space on the home direc...

Wonder if Google Earth runs on RPi? No. There is no open source version of GE as far as I know. But there should exist a lot of different mapping applications that might be sucessfully ported to RasPI. These ones for example. http://qtmapper.garage.maemo.org/ http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/MoNav

Problem now is that i want to do something else like startx, i can not do that. So what to do? You add "&" sign to the end of your commandline to have it run in the background. Read more about bash/ash job control here: http://www.linuxtopia.org/online_books/advanced_bash_scripting_guide/x6632.html

It probably isn't, port 9090 is the standard port of the json-rpc interface for XBMC. Probably enabled by default so that you can start to use it via a remote-app without the need for a keyboard or mouse.

"Wheezy" is just the code name for the next Debian release, what is known as "Debian 7.0" or "Testing". You can download an install image for the x86 version of Wheezy here: http://www.debian.org/devel/debian-installer/ ( I would probably recomend this: http://cdimage.debian.org/cdimage/wheezy_di_be...
