Experimenting with new lib6c on Raspbian Stretch

I have a system running on Raspbian Stretch that, since an update to it, is running into an issue that 1 or 2 others have, in the past, said is related to the version of lib6c. So - I'm tempted to try to install (or maybe build and install) a more recent version of lib6c. I know that installing a ne...

Re: updating fails

Great - someone or something has fixed it ... all of the "alias" lines have now gone and apt is happy again.

Re: updating fails

Looking at one from Nov 29th on an RPi4 ... I see a very different style of content.

The recent one that I picked up has lots of "alias" records like

Code: Select all

alias symbol:ieee80211_chandef_to_operating_class cfg80211
but the older one from an RPi4 has no mention of "alias"

Re: updating fails

... time passed ... and I am now seeing the same thing. Just bringing an old RPi 1 back into life. Fresh SD card with Buster from raspberrypi.org I ran update and upgrade earlier today without a reported problem. Rebooted about an hour ago and an install routine (Pimoroni Mote) ran apt-get update .....

Re: Smart Home Automation - What are the options?

Thank you gentlemen. Can the two solutions exist concurrently on the same system (for evaluating pros/cons) or would I need to build two completely separate systems ? I did have them both installed on the same Pi for a while ... but I did not start them both at the same time. If you use their abili...

Re: rpi-eeprom beta package - VL805 updates

I did an apt-get update and upgrade on a clean RPi4 and rebooted a couple of times ... and did not receive the firmware update ... so looks like it is not pushed out for the general public yet.

Re: New Raspberry Pi 3 B not working w/ new 7" LCD

A quick easy test to rule out some possibilities would be to connect the RPi to a TV via the same HDMI cable and see if that works.
If it does not ... try a different cable.

My guess is that having a relatively small initial audience is the idea - hence the “test and report back” instruction.

Re: Power station for PI4

Also ... Pi4 does not need the full 3A for itself.
So if you are not planning to add power hungry USB peripherals to your Pi4 then lower power is fine.
See the specs for more detail.

Re: OTA TV in the US?

OSMC is outdated and not supported as well as libreelec. I read a comment from Sam Nazarko (OSMC) that the approach being taken for RPi4 support is different between Libreelec and OSMC. He wrote soon after RPi4 release: this (Libreelec) approach uses MMAL and some patches to make it work with GBM. ...

Re: lcdproc and PI4

That was the basis of the fix that I supplied for RPi2 (although I calculated it at run time rather than compile time) and would have been a similar for RPi4 ... however, when I suggested that to LCDProc maintainer he said that this method was now obsolete and there is a new (unreleased but availabl...

The change that I submitted to LCDProc in 2015 did something similar. Re: Rapberry pi 4 IO memory base address

Update from LCDProc ... they now consider having specific RPi module for GPIO-based devices as obsolete and instead they want to control via libgpiod. So ... quick question ... does libgpiod know about the RPi4 base address or whatever it needs to access them? Edit: Someone with access to RPi4 (mine...

Re: Rapberry pi 4 IO memory base address

I have created an issue on LCDProc github with link to this. What timescale for the updated official way and how backwards compatible will it...

Is there an official way to get the base address at runtime (i.e. not using defines). With older Raspbian builds it could be found via /proc/iomem with different keywords depending whether or not device tree was being used. https://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=100066 Edit: changed /dev...

They say "no" "Unfortunately the SmartiPi Touch is not compatible with the Pi 4. The HDMI ports and USB ports have all been changed and will not work in the SmartiPi Touch. The good news is we have been working on a new case design that is compatible and expect it to be ready in the beginning of Aug...

I remember seeing something about it on one of the many launch days videos that I skipped through.
It said no pixel doubling in RPi4 but there use different modes to achieve same effect .... but I don't know which (all my RPi run headless).
