Re: Debian Hard Float (armhf) for RPi

Just a quick update - plugged both USB jacks into the powered hub for my SSD, added the line to that conf file, removed the overclock from config.txt. Rebooted. Re-ran the tasksel install standard, and am now in the process of installing ROS and so far so good, no crazy behavior.

Thanks for the help!

Re: Debian Hard Float (armhf) for RPi

I'm now completely up and running - I think! At least I have got the LXDE gui going. All I can see is File Manager, LXTerminal, Reportbug and Preferred Applications. And on the bar I have a few standard things like the clock and cpu monitor. I take it that everything else needs to be installed from...

Re: Debian Hard Float (armhf) for RPi

Ideas??? Unfortunately, I don't have Raspberry Pi hardware yet to look into these issues, but with CargoCult's help I should be getting my hands one within the next two days. In the meantime I hope others that already have hardware can help give you suggestions to overcome these issues. Often, when...

Re: Debian Hard Float (armhf) for RPi

Nope, didn't bother because it seemed to work fine (although I'm such a Linux newb I probably wouldn't know the diff if it had failed!) I'm also wondering if it was an issue with the SSD because I only had the 1 USB jack plugged into the powered Hub vs both the Data+aux power USB plugs. Was going to...

Re: Debian Hard Float (armhf) for RPi

Hey guys, I've been giving Raspbian-R3 a go and I keep running into a couple issues I want to share and see if you had some advice. First off, bear with me, my RPi is at home, I'm at the office, so I'm going off memory here. Sorry if I'm vague or incorrect on specifics. Also, I'm running in a config...

Re: The DHL Dodge - Hi-Larious! :-D

Yeah, well, if RS would just keep up with sending out the tracking info LIKE THEY SAID THEY WOULD, we'd have the tracking numbers in advance of delivery and could plan accordingly for what day our package would be arriving, leave a signed note on the door for them, etc. As it currently stands, with ...

Re: Emulators and the R-pi

Ok, I got the C64 emulator up and working last night - Vice.. No sound support, but otherwise it seemed to work (albeit with LOTS of pauses, the CPU meter was pegged the whole time...), and I couldn't figure out how to get it to let me type into the console, but I was able to load up some games and ...

Re: Emulators and the R-pi

I know Hexxeh gave the VICE C64 emulator a try for me a week or so ago, and I plan to try that one myself tonight when I get home and hook up my new Pi. I know there's the thread regarding MAME on this forum as well... Others I'm planning to give a try: UAE (Amiga) (not expecting this to work, but w...

Re: Haven't received shipping info

And what do I get 2 minutes before walking out the door to head to work this morning? An automated call from DHL telling me that my package is being delivered today, and must be signed for or a signed note with the tracking number must be left on the door for the driver to leave it. If I had gotten ...

Re: Working webcams

Best bet: get something that is listed as being UVC compatible....

My understanding from some of the discussions in the RPi IRC room is that the v4l patches are not applied in the default kernel, so you'll need to add those in. Once you do, though, you should be good to go.

Re: Ram Heatsinks

I suspect that's going to have mixed results. Remember that on the RPi (and this is true for the Beagle+Pandaboards as well) the RAM is on a module stacked on top of the CPU. That means you have no direct access to the CPU to remove the heat built up in it. Placing one of these on top of the stack w...

Re: Haven't received shipping info

I'm in the same boat - Got the invite to order on the 4th of May, ordered that morning, still no shipment notification email. If RS would just keep on top of sending out the notifications maybe we wouldn't get upset/frustrated. It IS quite annoying to hear reports of others who put in their order th...

<t>Just goes to show there were a LOT of orders there on the 29th of Feb.<br/> <br/> Basically the speculation here is:<br/> <br/> Those of us who are in the next 4000 in order (or rather newarks allocation of the remaining 4000 from the Farnell half of the remaining 8000 original production) get it...

Re: $62.84 for my Pi?? What the Heck Farnell!?

<t>I'm betting it's because you ordered from the UK, shipping to the US. International shipping isn't cheap… Those prices on that table are assuming that you are ordering from the local affliate, not from Export Farnell.<br/> <br/> And you could have ordered from Newark just a few hours later (which...

<t>Um, where are you in the world, and which site did you order from? Farnell Export, or a direct entity in your country (Like Newark in the USA) ? How much of it is shipping? Re: Game Over For The Raspberry Pi Already?

<t>I see this as MILDLY interesting, but certainly NOT targeting the same space as the Pi.<br/> <br/> 1) Cost is WAY higher, which means it's a tougher sell for schools+kids, the target RPi market<br/> <br/> 2) Yeah, that's a ton more processing power... Re: EBay sale Guy trying to sell Pi for 500 bucks.

<t>No offense Nick, but I have a few issues with this whole thing:<br/> <br/> 1) You're saying you're going to power the RPi off the USB on the monitor? HOW? Typical USB ports only put out 500ma, the RPi needs at least 700ma.<br/> <br/> 2) the Roswill USB hub you show in the pics is UNPOWERED, which...
