Re: BASIC - more harmful than useful?

<t>Eh, I learned BASIC, originally on a C64... Then over time I graduated up to PASCAL, then C, then in college made the jump to OO with C++ and a little Smalltalk-80. After graduating in summer of '95, I did a few things, worked for IBM @ the 1996 Olympics, and then in fall of '96 they sent me to J...

Re: Truly Noob OS Question

<t>I have to say, after spending all weekend trying to get Debian installed onto the flash on my old SheevaPlug, I feel your pain... In general, the Linux community makes strong software, but HORRIBLE documentation - all too often it is missing steps, unclear, expects you to have knowledge you might...

Re: OpenTyrian

<t>Oh I got ya beat - Here in Atlanta, where traffic is HORRIBLE, we have to pay a yearly tax to the county for registering our vehicles, based on value of the vehicle. Then they tax us for the gas used (state+federal) which is supposed to go to road maintenance. Then the state got a grant (paid for...

Re: How many here actually *care* about the goals of the project?

<t>Agreed with crundy above..<br/> <br/> I think some of what we've lost in this last 25 years of computing, with Windows and such, is the simplicity of the older systems. I cut my teeth on a C64 - a machine that started immediately with the flick of a switch, and the "shell" was also the program ed...

Re: Unpopulated PCBs on the front page

<t>Actually, to build on john\'s idea - sell any bad boards / scrap boards really cheap as a way for kids to play with circuitry - learn how a circuit board works - the multiple layers, the traces connecting things, etc. $1-2 for a scrap bad board could provide a kid with a voltmeter a lot of learni...

<t>Put me down for Dec 19th, say 1800 GMT.<br/> <br/> Given that they don't have the 100 sample prototype boards back from the manufacturer yet to do last minute proofing on, I figure they won't get those until next Monday (Dec 5).<br/> <br/> Give them a week to proof them, and then submit the order...

B, mostly for the extra RAM... I plan to use this for robotics applications, and I\'d really like to have the RAM for doing things like SLAM that I can\'t do on something small like the Arduino...

Re: Using RPi as a Standard Robotics Interface

<r>Depending on what you want to do, you could use the RPi as a ROS "host" node (ie, the brains) and hook it to an Arduino to have it act as a sensor interface node (see <URL url="http://www.ros.org/wiki/rosser.....al_arduino">http://www.ros.org/wiki/rosser.....al_arduino</URL>).<br/> <br/> I've don...
