Re: Raspberry Pi 2 or 3?

Rpi 2 is safer as it does not overheat. You do not need heat sinks nor fans. And it is almost as fast.

yes, you can not execuet that file. It contains parameters which motion reads when it starts.
motion
is the command that you should give.
to modify those parameters you need an editor like vi:

How did you try to modify those parameters?
Where did you get hat permission required message?

It is easier to help if you copy/paste the exact commands and message.

Re: Motion software not working properly.

You apparently run into some kind of protection issue.

One (easy) possibility is to change your ledon program to read one of those files you can modify from motion and just wait for the correct code to set the led on/off.

Re: Motion software not working properly.

Try removing the sudo. Motion apparently expects just a script name.

Build a simple test script which just does
echo hello >> /tmp/motion_hello.txt

vlc h264 streaming not working with Jessie

Before I start digging this more than what I have now done.... This works great in Wheezy and I can see the stream (rtsp://192.168.254.13:8888/h264) with VLC in another machine: $ v4l2-ctl --set-fmt-video=width=1296,height=1080,pixelformat=4 $ v4l2-ctl --set-ctrl video_bitrate=4000000 $ v4l2-ctl -p ...

I would just glue a small magnet to the pointer axel and use small reed switches to find the position /direction. Reliable and simple.

It was possible to add 3 cpus to the SOC. Why is it impossible to release new version which can use 4GB memory.

Re: Bluetooth distance sensing - phone etc without pairing

This does not seem to be working with the internal bluetooth of rpi3?
I only get
RSSI return value: 0

Any ideas how to get signal strength to the connected devide using rpi3 internal bluetooth?

Re: What do people want to do that the rpi currently cannot

I tried to build a backup system for my cameras. I have 4 IP cameras and I wanted to backup the pictures to an USB disk on another server. Raspberry was not able to handle the load due to combined high load on USB external disk and ethernet. (I bought an odroid c1 and it is happily handling it. It h...

Re: Controlling LAN LEDs individually

Source is safe on security point of view.
It is simple little program, which does not open any doors nor include viruses.

I also tested that it works and indeed needs root privileges.

You just compile it:
make

It needs this:
sudo apt-get install libusb-dev

When putting X commands in rc.local, you need to make sure 1) you have DISPLAY set and 2) you do not start your script too early as X needs to be running 3) you run it as a correct user (the same that runs X) my rc.local example: (you may have to tune timings depending what your machine is doing) su...

Re: Can't get passwordless SSH to work from Pi to Pi

Check that the strictmode setting is good:

Code: Select all

$ grep StrictModes /etc/ssh/sshd_config
StrictModes no
And then I have found it easy to use tool called ssh-copy-id:

Code: Select all

$ ssh-copy-id <remote-machine>
Just replace <remote-machine> with your remote raspberry ip name/address

You could try xset (in .xinitrc):

Code: Select all

xset s off # don't activate screensaver
xset -dpms # disable DPMS (Energy Star) features.
xset s noblank # don't blank the video device
Not sure it helps as I run it from normal startx session.

Try to minimize all sd card writes. Use memory file systems and stop all loggins.
I have been running 24/7 systems which die now and then and i have not seen corruptions for a long time.

I will have to say that those are nice idea's for getting POE onto the raspberry PI. but while they both do similar jobs in splitting the power from the data and then forwarding the data to the PI's network port, what my idea is to have the data go directly into network IC similar to LAN9512 on the...
