Re: Automatically download movies from ftp

I would concur... I mount my ISO directory from the NAS (FreeNAS) and just play them off of that. Gives me 3TB of file access. Even using a Wireless WiFi connection (don' t have wired access near the TV), the speed is more than enough.

Re: Initial Boot over USB?

I use a serial connection to my RPi on numerous occasions. I picked up the Adafruit cable https://www.adafruit.com/products/954 . Console access actually works very well though I have no idea how well it would work via a PDA. In that you indicate you are located in California, is there not someone n...

Re: How do I use all the 512 ram?

If it is the latest raspian - 2012-10-28-wheezy-raspbian after you do the setup (which includes raspi-config and doing the update), you should be able to edit the /boot/config.txt file and add the GPU split you want. The minimum split is 16, the default is 64 gpu_mem GPU memory in megabyte. Sets the...

Re: Comparing memory beween 256k and 512k board

In the newer versions of Raspian..... memory is allocated to the GPU by added (not included by default) the settings: gpu_mem_256=XX gpu_mem_512=XX If you have a 256mb board, it will follow the gpu_mem_256 entry, 512mb the gpu_mem_512 entry. You can allocate as little as 16 Ref: http://elinux.org/RP...

And a comment from that thread said... TBH there isn't much point in hanging on for a Rev3 - it will only be minor changes to the current device, and not worth the wait. At $35.... why wait if you can get one. I have 2 older 256mb versions along with 2 512mb versions and I can put them all to work.

Did a short video showing this happening... http://youtu.be/wiqYxQtfB7k The video shows the end of the boot process which then calls the video loop script. Just be running the omxplayer script, it clears the screen like you are doing but then echo's a number of lines so that the text of that the omx...

Re: playing omxplayer video at boot

The text being displayed is from omxplayer.... Perhaps you could add echo's which would be blank lines before calling omxplayer in your script a bunch of times like: echo ; echo ; echo ; echo ; echo; omxplayer -r /tv/video.mov This will position the text that omxplayer puts out in the same section t...

Hi, I downloaded 2012-10-28-wheezy-raspbian.zip 4 times tonight. After they were downloaded I unzipped them and then ran sha1sum.exe on each of the files. The sha1 is performed on the ZIP file, not the enclosed img file, so don't unzip it before checking. The ZIP file = 3EE33A94079DE631DEE606AEBD65...

Possible that your ISP blocks port 80 which would block you use of a web server from your connection??

Re: Cannot write SD

I only use MicroSDHC cards in all of my RPi in SDCard adapters... Writing via USB (When it is in a USB Thumb drive) is much better supported than using a regular SDCard in a lot of computers. If you have one, you should try a different SDCard adapter for your MicroSD card. They are sometimes loose.....

Some browsers like Firefox have an option to see what your saved passwords are.

Using FF, Options->Security-> Saved Passwords and put the URL in... if it shows the username, you can click a button to show the password.
