Re: usb drive and spaces in name

Make a link to the drive to a name of your choosing.

Code: Select all

cd /media/pi
sudo ln -s Seagate\ Expansion\ Drive seagate
I cd'ed to the directory so I didn't have to type the path.

Re: Pi Zero not booting

You think I managed to get two defective units in a row? Again, not disputing, just trying to confirm. Is the RPiZero failure rate really that high? I bought a Pi Zero and a Pi Zero W from two different sources. All 4 worked. does the simple fact that I get no LEDs at all indicate this is probably ...

Re: Pi Zero not booting

This is getting somewhat offtopic, though. I just want my PiZeroW to work... When you're trying to boot, do you have a monitor attached? If you do, you should see the color splash screen very quickly after applying power. I'm using a Class4 microSD card and it takes about 90 seconds to get to a usa...

Re: Pi Zero not booting

By the way, the Pi doesn't have a microcontroller, it has a full blown microprocessor (4 of them in the 2 and 3 models) and a load more, all in the one chip. The definitions of microcontroller, microprocessor, and SoC are fuzzy at best. I wouldn't put a "full blown" ARM "microprocessor" in any comp...

Re: Pi Zero not booting

I don't think you can swap the SD cards willy nilly. I tried putting the card from a Pi Zero W in to a Pi Zero and it wouldn't boot. Putting the card in another Zero W worked and it was assigned a new IP address. I have to take that back. I just tried putting the card from my Pi Zero W in a Pi Zero...

Re: WiFi symbol keeps moving

If it bothers you, you can remove it from the task bar. Right click on the task bar and select add/remove panel items.

Personally, I'd just leave it because it's useful to know if you're connected and what the signal strength is.

We are looking to buy the monitors keyboard Sdram card and then something to attach and cover the pi and the sdram and package in an attractive way that won’t fall apart easily when kids use it. We want to keep the price as low as possible. So you're trying to reinvent this? piLaptop.JPG Whatever P...

but aside from when it's plugged in to a PC with no card, the zero shows, well, zero signs of life. When you plug it in to a Windows computer, you should get a notification that an unknown device was connected. In Device Manager, it will show up as BCM2708 Boot (under Other devices). Apparently that icon is to give you information about your VNC session and is only present in vncviewer. desktopTaskbar.jpg Have you tried running the vncserver command? One way to see if you have any vncserver sessions running is to check the .pid file(s) in ~/.vnc. If the PID(s) in the files exist...

how can you prevent over writes? if it doesn't overwrites how does it tell the 2 images apart if they have the same name?
You just remove write permission from the files after they're created.

Re: Serial connection via USB with no network connection?

Did you try my image? Not yet. I need to get more microSD cards. The Pi0 can take a long time to boot. Did you wait long enough before trying SSH (90 seconds or more if you're not using an A1 rated card)? The next time I boot that Pi, I'll measure how long it takes and make sure I wait until after ...

Re: Raspberry Pi Zero W with 2 Channel Relay

You're going to need a 12V supply for the relay coil (I assume this is what 12V relay means). What are the contacts rated for? It needs to be able to handle your line voltage and the current for the TV. It's likely that you'll need a transistor (NPN or N channel MOSFET) to drive the relay coil becau...

Re: Serial connection via USB with no network connection?

The Pi0 in USB Gadget mode is seen as a USB Ethernet adapter, and you SSH into that using the Pi hostname instead of IP address, and for that you need an mDNS/Zeroconf service running. Although Bonjour is not needed with up-to-date versions of Windows 10 (Windows 10 supports mDNS, but an update las...

Re: how to change the permission so images are written to a folder but not saving over a image with the same name

The OS can't version the file the way you want. It could prevent overwrites, but not versioning.

This functionality isn't just limited to Raspian (which is a Debian derivative).

Does anyone know how to change focus to "follows mouse" instead of "click to focus". Googled for awhile and didn't find anything. I had hoped that LXTerminal would use .Xresources, but it doesn't.
