Re: Updated GPU firmware

It looks like an X issue (possibly coupled with framebuffer driver) rather than a firmware issue. Are you sure this is caused by newer firmware? I'm guessing it's always been there. Older disk images cause this too, so you're probably right, not a firmware issue. Posting a topic to the raspbian sub...

Re: Updated GPU firmware

I've been playing with retroarch about once a week for the past couple months using this same method. This is the first time this has happened.

Oh, I also did a dist-upgrade that I think included an update to the xserver. Maybe this caused it. Will try later today or tomorrow to see.

Re: Updated GPU firmware

Don't bother with retroarch. Just found Quake3 has the same behaviour(maybe all GLES applications?). Just boot to X, ctrl+alt+f2, open quake3, exit, press ctrl+alt+f7(nothing happens), ctrl+alt+f2, ctrl+alt+f7, now bottom of desktop is at top of screen and bottom remains non-updating.

Re: Updated GPU firmware

Should work. Haven't used it, but I looked at it's script to help set up my install. I updated emulationstation, retroarch, the emulator plugins, and the pi firmware at the same time. Could this be an issue with the program? I open emulationstation(a gui that tells retroarch which game and emulator ...

Re: Updated GPU firmware

Sorry to double-post, too late for the edit window.
My issue above appears to only happen when I tell retroarch/pcsx to use the GL renderer. And if I go back to tty2 and try to play pcsx again, the system freezes and I have to unplug it.

Re: Updated GPU firmware

On the latest firmware, if I open up emulationstation/retroarch in tty2 and then exit, I have to wait 5 seconds before switching back to X on tty7. If I don't wait, it hangs on tty2's screen until I switch back. When I specifically use retroarch to play pcsx(tested with Gran Turismo 2), after I exit...

Not that I know of. I have the same issue as NiTTaKu. Installed the driver, it's recognized, but no input.

Re: Raspberry Pi with 512mb RAM in the Wild and Element14...

The type of RAM can help - I seem to remember chatting with Gert about this a while back (9 months at least), who was saying the SS 512 he was testing was much better and worked at higher clock frequencies than 256, I think using less power as well. So it's quite possible the 512's will on average ...

Corruption might be fixed in the latest firmware. I was one of the people that tried to help find the issue. No more corruption for me so far.

Re: Overclocking

Sounds good. You could try increasing emmc clock more. I think that core_freq/emmc_freq must be > N for safety. Where it looks like N is about 10. You could try 150MHz. 150MHz has never been tried, so it may fail for other reasons. You could also try: init_emmc_clock=110000000 sdhci-bcm2708.emmc_cl...

Re: Overclocking

@Tompen @portets (and others) Can you please try (in config.txt) init_emmc_clock=100000000 and in cmdline.txt sdhci-bcm2708.emmc_clock_freq=100000000 This appears to have helped a lot. 1100/500/600. No errors at all with force_turbo=1. Not a 100% fix though. I can set core_freq=550 without force tu...

Will try to do some testing today. Trying to get over a wisdom tooth issue right now.

Anyone see this? http://www.raspberrypi.org/phpBB3/viewt ... 33#p193333
They said a capacitor across a couple of sd pins fixed corruption.

Won't Boot From USB HDD

I have an externally powered 80 GB EDGE DiskGo usb hdd that I burned a known working image to, burned the same image to a known working sd card, changed cmdline.txt to: root=/dev/sda2 When I boot my pi everything goes as normal until it loads the the usb devices about 3 seconds in. Re: RetroPie Setup - Auto-installer/updater for RetroArch ga

Problem: Every time we start emulation station and run a ROM, the Raspberry Pi freezes after about 5 minutes of gameplay and needs a reboot. It simply locks up, and no keyboard inputs are recognized. All LEDs are on, on the Pi. Are you updating the firmware before using retroarch? There is a bug in...

Re: Overclocking

I tried init_emmc_clock=100000000 and also didn't get any corruption on multiple tries. A lot of mmc0 errors though. I tried it again with no overclock and received the same errors. After commenting it out, I verified my boot was clean with no errors. I then tried init_emmc_clock=25000000 with no ov...

Re: Is it possible to set a flat overclock rate with the RPi

after you set your overclock in raspi-config, the overclock settings are saved in config.txt. Just add the force_turbo=1 to the end. But remember that there is currently an issue where you may lose EVERYTHING. happened to me, but now I make image backups.

Re: Is it possible to set a flat overclock rate with the RPi

if you add: force_turbo=1 to config.txt, it should do what you're asking. But right now that option will corrupt the filesystem for some people. This is being investigated in a different thread right now, no fix yet. You may not be affected though. If you choose to do it, I recommend creating an ima...

Re: Overclocking

So how many types of corruption are we dealing with now? I'm having trouble keeping track of which ones are related. I've seen fat corruption on boot, ext4 corruption with heavy I/O, and I get ext4 corruption on boot with force_turbo=1, but heavy I/O + CPU is completely stable for me.

Make sure you're on the latest firmware, and add:

Code: Select all

overscan_scale=1
to /boot/config.txt
