Re: Advmame and DISPMANX

Another minor update after testing tonight. A fave of mine is Bubble Bobble. Normally on the Pi with advmame doing the scaling this is almost playable but not quite. With DISPMANX it is fully playable on the Pi and not only that but it plays faster than the arcade. Bobble in the arcade slows down on...

MongCade - My Pi Cabinet

Hi All, About 6 months ago I decided to build a mame cab for my first Pi project. It's taken a while but it's finally reached that 98% complete never to be finished stage. Pics are at the link below. I'll also post the .blend file I used to scale the cabinet in a wee while. http://www.scorch.org/?p=...

Yep, I knew that. The tricky bit is getting advmame to NOT do any scaling. :)

Advmame and DISPMANX

When I tested SSilverk's PIMAME0.4 distro I was surprised to find out how slow it was compared to my own build. I'd installed DISPMANX some time ago but failed to get it working. Or so I thought. It turned out it had been working all along and I didn't realise it. For more info see the DISPMANX thre...

Re: AdvMAME earlier versions for better performance ...

Welshy,
Have you looked at the DISPMANX backend at all for mame? I had a go at it but can't see to get it to scale with mame. This would seem a great boost if we could get it working.

Re: Power switch now available for Pi

Awesome. Is it possible to do one without the switch mounted but just some free wires instead? This would be great for my mame cabinet where I'd like to choose which switch I use then mount through the 12mm MDF.

MAME audio - analogue vs hdmi

Hi folks, In my Picade cabinet I'm using analogue audio which is absolutely hideous. Laggy, pops, poor quality etc. Is this related to analogue audio only and is HDMI better in any way? If so, would one of these fix my issues? https://www.adafruit.com/blog/2012/12/18/hdmi-to-vga-video-audio-adapter-...

Re: PiMAME 0.4 Released

I seem to be having problems uploading roms. The roms upload ok, I can set permissions, they look ok in the rom dir and I can even run advmame <rom> against them. They refuse to show up in advmenu though.

I'm in Brisbane and my Pi is operating fine in a non-airconned room. Temps may be high here just now but they aren't high enough to affect most computers.

I currently use ajaxterm and it works ok. Will try shellinabox soon as it looks more interactive.

Buy yourself the Pi. Train your daughter to use the mouse on a real machine. My kid at 3 was using Tuxpaint and readingeggs.com. She's not going to program anything until she can read.

Re: Idea: Suite of FOSS alternatives to popular online servi

The trick is to not use Apache. I have a VPS (virtual server) with 256 MB and it runs Wordpress, (www.scorch.org), Drupal, tt-rss, roundcube and jyraphe. Including MySQL it runs around 140MB usage. I replaced Apache with Nginx, a much lighter web server. You could also use lighthttpd which is also g...

Trying to use fake details doesn't work in data mining. You just end up with your fake profile attached to your real profile while you merrily go around the internet thinking you've stuck it up the man.

Re: Simon's accelerated X development thread

Excellent post. As a Free Software advocate however I'd have to recommend releasing as much as possible under a non-permissive free software license like the GPL. This insures that society continues to benefit as a whole from your work not just an individual developer. Permissive licenses (MIT, ZLib...
