How does Android Pie run on the Pi 3? Is it usable?

Re: Debian Stretch ARM64 for Raspberry Pi 3

This is great. It provides a familiar environment where users can quickly test the latest Chromium, Firefox, modern databases and other software that is now unsupported on armhf. In my opinion the number one feature missing here is a working Mesa VC4 driver. When Bamarni pi64 was released it initia...

Re: I do not walk the mouse correctly with touch screen in the Raspberry Pi 3

This is in the wrong section. This section is about the Debian-based OS for x86 that uses the Raspberry Pi Desktop. Your post, however, is presumably about a touch screen display for the Raspberry Pi. There's a section for posts about touch screen here: https://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewforum.p...

What do you mean by "did not walk the mouse correctly"?
They probably meant that the cursor doesn't work properly.

There are several 64-bit OSes available for the Pi 3, such as Ubuntu, Debian, Fedora, and Gentoo. http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/18.04/beta https://wiki.debian.org/RaspberryPi3 https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Architectures/ARM/Raspberry_Pi#aarch64_supported_images_for_Raspberry_Pi_3 https://githu...

MIT should start developing Scratch Desktop for Linux again considering the Pi is one of the main platforms to run it on.

Re: Pi won't boot anymore

Actually, I recommend not to bother with a preloaded NOOBS microSD card. Why? Because the microSD you buy may be from 2015 and won't work on the latest Pi models. It's easier to just install NOOBS manually onto a microSD. It must be formatted as FAT32 (SD Formatter 4.0 is a good program for the task...

Re: 64-bit operating system

I'm planning on implementing something similar to sakaki's RPi3 Configuration into my Ubuntu 18.04 ARM64 desktop images at some point. While I have modified the raspi-config script to work with ARM64 and expect the firmware to be mounted at /boot/firmware, several of the functions are unusable. Chan...

Re: Raspbian Stretch Lite 2018-11-13 doesn't Boot

It's always a good idea to check out the SHA256 checksum of the file you downloaded and then compare it to the one listed on the downloads page. The SHA256 checksum is for the zip file containing the image and not the image itself.

Re: Installing Ubuntu-Mate to Raspberry Pi 1

Both Ubuntu and Raspbian are based on Debian, and therefore are like each other in many ways. Try installing Raspbian Lite and then installing the mate-desktop-environment package. This will give you an Ubuntu MATE-like experience on your Pi 1.

Judging by your posts, you are probably one of the developers of this Linux distribution. If that's correct, you should state that in your signature to make that clear.

Re: My Sons first Pi

I would suggest buying a preloaded NOOBS microSD, but some are so old that they only work on older Pi models. Buy a 16GB-32GB microSD as well as a microSD-to-SD adapter. You'll also need an SD to USB adapter if your PC doesn't have an SD card slot. Then start by flashing Raspbian to the microSD card...

Re: Tutorial: How to install Ubuntu 18.04 for ARM64 on Raspberry Pi 3B

Might as well make my own image using qemu-debootstrap and try to get the keyboard working (previously when trying debootstrap and trying to run the outcome on the Pi, I've never got further than the login prompts). Seems like my keyboard didn't work because I didn't install kernel modules. Install...

Android is designed for use on phones and tablets, but does anyone actually use Android as their daily OS on the Pi? Can apps (such as Chrome and Minecraft) run nicely on the Pi using Android?

Re: How to upgrade to Ubuntu MATE 18.04 on the Raspberry Pi

I simply did the do-release-upgrade from the terminal and it successfully upgraded without breaking any packages. The trick is probably to first fully update the existing version before upgrading. Re: Password storage idea

It's really not a good idea to store all of your passwords in plain text in the same place. I use LastPass, but that's because my primary OS is Windows - not sure if it runs on Linux x86/x64. I also use the LastPass phone app on my Android phone. LastPass almost certainly wouldn't work on the Pi, s...

So you're keeping your passwords in plain text somewhere in your computer? That's a bad idea. Someone with physical access to you computer has your passwords. Someone takes the SD card and they have the passwords. Please don't do this.
Couldn't agree more.
