Re: My Sons first Pi

I would suggest buying a preloaded NOOBS microSD, but some are so old that they only work on older Pi models. Buy a 16GB-32GB microSD as well as a microSD-to-SD adapter. You'll also need an SD to USB adapter if your PC doesn't have an SD card slot. Then start by flashing Raspbian to the microSD card...

Re: "Permission Denied" message

I am trying to run a python program which I downloaded from GitHUb and I am getting the message "Permission denied". Other pytjon programs in this directory run ok. I'm not sure if this is a Google Cloud credentials issue or an issue on my pi. Is there something I am missing? I think that somehow I...

Re: Tutorial: How to install Ubuntu 18.04 for ARM64 on Raspberry Pi 3B

Might as well make my own image using qemu-debootstrap and try to get the keyboard working (previously when trying debootstrap and trying to run the outcome on the Pi, I've never got further than the login prompts). Seems like my keyboard didn't work because I didn't install kernel modules. Install...

Does anyone actually run Android on the Pi as a daily OS?

Android is designed for use on phones and tablets, but does anyone actually use Android as their daily OS on the Pi? Can apps (such as Chrome and Minecraft) run nicely on the Pi using Android?

Re: 64-bit operating system

I've built an Ubuntu MATE 18.04 ARM64 image. Built-in WiFi works, as well as wireless periphearls. Bluetooth currently doesn't work, but I'll release an updated image if I discover a fix! https://github.com/CodeExecution/Ubuntu-ARM64-RPi I'm currently uploading an Xubuntu image as well that I built ...

Re: How to upgrade to Ubuntu MATE 18.04 on the Raspberry Pi

I simply did the do-release-upgrade from the terminal and it successfully upgraded without breaking any packages. The trick is probably to first fully update the existing version before upgrading. "DO NOT run do-release-upgrade - it will attempt to install the standard boot loader and destroy your ...

Re: How to install Debian 7.8 on Raspberry pi 2 ?

I have a requirement to use debian 7.8 on my raspberry pi 2. I would like to know whether there are any differences between Debian and Raspbian because I saw that Raspbian is based on Debian. I'm new to Linux environment and looking for a simple method to install Debian 7.8 or a compatible version ...

Re: Password storage idea

It's really not a good idea to store all of your passwords in plain text in the same place. I use LastPass, but that's because my primary OS is Windows - not sure if it runs on Linux x86/x64. I also use the LastPass phone app on my Android phone. LastPass almost certainly wouldn't work on the Pi, s...

So you're keeping your passwords in plain text somewhere in your computer? That's a bad idea. Someone with physical access to you computer has your passwords. Someone takes the SD card and they have the passwords. Please don't do this.
Couldn't agree more.

Got my teenage son excited to start learning about robots. He laughed at the name "raspberry pi" but I convinced him. The Pi arrived in the mail. We used it for a few hours...then it stopped working. I replaced the SD card/reloaded noobs...still no luck. My 16 yr old son is of course laughing at me...

Please help out in this Sorry, but Ubuntu armhf requires ARMv7 or later, the Pi 1 and Zero use ARMv6 which are not supported by Ubuntu. There used to be an Ubuntu armel port for AR...

Re: "Sorry but you cannot use search at this time. The server has high load. Please try again later."

Just encountered the Raspberry Pi "We are currently experiencing high traffic. We'll be back shortly" page when trying to edit a post - 2018-12-26 14:40 UTC. That is the one with the Raspberry Pi logo at the top, which seems to sit between the forum-style warning that load is high on user search, u...

Re: 64-bit operating system

An ARM64 Raspbian would basically just be 'ARM64 Debian with Raspberry Pi Desktop'. Why? Because Debian already has an ARM64 port which works on the Raspberry Pi 3. Remember, Raspbian was made because Debian armhf was compiled for the ARMv7 architecture that the original Raspberry Pi did not have, ...
