Re: Updated 64-bit Gentoo Image for RPi3 Released (now also for RPI3B+)

I might try Gentoo64 on the Pi 3. I've tried to stick with 32-bit in the past, since the performance of Ubuntu ARM64 was poor; the Pi froze each time I opened a web browser or even ran a simple apt command! I believe that the experimental GL driver was enabled in the u-boot kernel, since the picture...

Re: Introducing Pi386

Also, there's no need for a new kernel considering that WINE 3.0 can be installed from the Eltechs WINE PPA. Could you provide instruction so that I can install Pi386 on Raspbian from scratch? Pi386 uses qemu-user-static for emulation and was built using debootstrap. I recently came across a couple...

Re: Libreoffice 6 in raspbian

You can now run LibreOffice 6.1 on the Raspberry Pi 2 and 3 as if it were running natively thanks to Pi386 emulation layer, an emulation layer that allows you to install 32-bit x86 software inside of an i386 environment and then run this software on the Pi transparently. https://www.raspberrypi.org/...

Troubleshoot OS compatibility with Raspberry Pi 3B+ and 3A+

These instructions also apply to the Lubuntu and Xubuntu images available on the Ubuntu Pi Flavour Maker website, as well as any other 32-bit distro for the Raspberry Pi. People have been reporting that Ubuntu MATE has not been booting on the Pi 3B+ but boots perfectly on older Pi models. This is be...

Re: Speed up x86 Debian on Eee PC

So I'm running the x86 Debian distribution (I heard I shouldn't be calling it 'Rasbian for PC') Sure thing, the RPD for x86 is NOT Raspbian, but calling it 'x86 Debian' can be misleading, since some people may think you're referring to plain vanilla Debian rather than the RPD Debian. I prefer to ca...

Re: My Raspberry Pi 3 Model B will not read the microSD card anymore

rpi-update No, don't do that. It installs the possibly buggy and unstable testing branch kernel and firmware. +1 You should only use rpi-update if you are asked to by an engineer for testing purposes, or really know what you are doing and are happy with beta test software. Okay, makes sense, but is...

Re: Introducing Pi386

I mean, how did you get i386 WINE running on plain Raspbian? Raspbian does not include an emulation layer by default, so how did you get WINE to run without Pi386?

Also, there's no need for a new kernel considering that WINE 3.0 can be installed from the Eltechs WINE PPA.

GNOME desktop on Raspberry Pi 3

I'm very used to using the GNOME desktop, since I have Ubuntu 18.10 on my laptop which by default uses GNOME. I know various other desktop environments have been ported such as GNOME 2 (MATE), but I'd like to use GNOME 3 on my Pi 3 as well. There should be an option to turn off desktop effects to sp...

Re: My Raspberry Pi 3 Model B will not read the microSD card anymore

For the power supply, I recommend the official Pi 3 power supply. The Pi 3 does need more power than older versions. You can also manually update the kernel to the latest version which could help resolve issues with certain Pi models. These instructions assume that you have a PC running Linux. 1. In...

Re: Introducing Pi386

Note I'm testing this with wine32:i386 installed directly on the Raspbian Stretch host via multiarch. How'd you get an i386 build of WINE running on an ARM environment? You'd be able to add the repo and set a custom filter which forces apt to only check for armhf packages on the Raspbian repos and ...

Re: Introducing Pi386

please be aware that I won't be able to provide a new kernel for EVERY single Raspbian kernel release. That's probably fine going forward. The real problem here appears to be that you distributed your custom kernel without its modules. Perhaps you could package those up before building a new one. (...

Re: Introducing Pi386

Will try to get a new kernel out when I have time, but please be aware that I won't be able to provide a new kernel for EVERY single Raspbian kernel release. Also, Pi386 2.0 will have an Ubuntu 16.04 environment (upgradeable to 18.04) as well as a Debian one, allowing you to use a newer version of W...

Re: ubuntu 18.04.1 armhf dosent boot on rpi 3b+

You could always use a u-boot kernel to boot from the ARM64 installer ISO stored on a USB. https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ARM/RaspberryPi#Booting_generic_arm64_ISO_images Canonical have also provided instructions on how to configure the RPi2 Ubuntu Server image to run on a Pi 3. https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ARM...

However it seems they didn't attract too much attention from either the Pi / CrOS community over the years. I'd like to...

Also, on Linux, if you have no internet and try to run sudo apt update, it complains about a failure in name resolution, and doesn't hang on 0%. The reason it is hanging at 0% could be because of slow internet connection.

Re: Introducing Pi386

By the way, and just to clarify for anyone else reading this thread, the approach here is the same as in Exagear. That is, you emulate x86 so that you can run Linux X86 code. Then you layer WINE on top of that so you can run (some) Windows apps. But what's missing from this formula is actually runn...

would be really nice if it could run x86_64 it only does i686 and like, google doesn't build for i686 anymore.. if we could get x86_64 working, then we could get google chrome maybe installed directly on the debian image, without having to involve wine, and thus maybe get netflix working.. but they...
