In the description you say it needs to be 1000 px square, does that mean 100x100 px or 1000x1000x px?

For the board thing, you could try going an ocean route around the world. It would take a lot longer, but oceans are open territory

It would be pretty awesome if you could do it in 80 days! :P Any thoughts about dealing with crossing country boarders? Do you have any contingency plans for storms (especially over oceans?)

Re: Tablet.

<t>I like the idea of a r-pi being turned into a tablet. One other thing that would need to be incorporated is a means for charging the battery. Namely, a autoswitching DC->DC device that would float charge the batteries and run the device while it is plugged. You'd think it wouldn't be too hard to ...

<t>Which do you think will be the ultimate limiting factor, heat or the capabilities of the CPU itself? I mean we've all hit that point where no amount of cooling will let that processor run any faster. As I remember my old 700 Mhz processor stayed (relatively) cool with a dinky old fan. As AmyS3 sa...

Re: Suitable HDMI Monitor

If you're worried about cost, you can always get an hdmi to dvi convertor for less than $10 I think. Otherwise, the r-pi has a composite (RCA) output as well so you could use any TV/Monitor that has RCA in it (Of course if you RCA, your resolution doesn't get to be as impressive ;) )

<r>I love my CM7 too! Boot ups do take a lot of time but one thing I noticed is that I've actually received a phone call while the phone was still booting! I'm thinking with phones they're often limited both by memory (I think my phone has less the 128 MB of ram) and "hidden" processes. The phone it...

Re: How would you use a Raspberry Pi device?

<t>I was actually thinking more about this and I thought of two other things I'd like to use the r-pi for. The first is to control a USB relay. There are plenty of boards around, but they usually cost around $50 so I think I'll look into making my own. The idea is that you send commands out the com ...

<t>You did not miss the power switch, Liz has stated that at this point in time there is no power switch. It's either plugged in and on, or it's not plugged in and off. Seeing as how the device uses <1W power when running, standby seems a little superfluous.<br/> <br/> For time keeping time, that's ...

Re: Other operating systems?

I have chrome on my android, so you could always load the android OS onto the r-pi and have chrome. But as long as there's a linux package you should always be able to download the source for chrome and compile it on the r-pi and get chrome that way.

actually, that was just an early working prototype. Both models at this point are planned to be around the size of a credit card. Though a battery would still add some slight size, there are many applications that would benefit greatly from even a AA battery backup.

<t>I get what you're saying about culture, but I'm actually coming from a US based school system myself. Sure History, English, Math, and Science are all important, but 12 years exclusive important? I don't think so. Especially when History and English just become the same thing over and over again....

When you say the prototype do you mean the small usb sized picture or the pcb board image? Either way, we're told that the final design size for this first run through is around the size of a credit card (according to the home page)

<t>By that same logic is it fair that I be forced to take 12 years of history (not counting college)? Making it worse it's not 12 unique years, it's the same thing over and over.
