Re: suspend usb device but keep ssh connection on raspberry

sorry that goes beyond my knowledge of linux :( , hopefully one of the other users of the forum with a little more down and dirty know how of linux will come by the thread and explain what's going on. My best guess is that it has something to do with the LAN951x chip being used or the USB stack in t...

Re: suspend usb device but keep ssh connection on raspberry

Short answer: The LAN is connected via the USB module. Longer answer, the chip being used for the USB ports (the LAN9512 on the older modules and the LAN9514 on the new modules) has 2 or 4 USB ports and one virtual USB-to-Ethernet adapter. The SoC on the Pi does not have an integrated Ethernet devic...

Re: Media Server

Assuming your other computer is windows, the easiest way would be to create a samba share on the Pi that the windows PC can access and transfer files to as required.

Re: A 2 inches Mini PC that runs ANDROID 4.4 KITKAT like a p

Yeah, I can see your point, but I've coded for Android quite a bit and you can definetely use it to learn programming and so on... Not to pedantic here, but did you learn to program by creating programs FOR android or by creating programs ON an android device without any additional external computer?

Re: will a rasperry pi work as a media center pc.

OK, so I understand is the netflix issue a pi issue or a linux issue? It's a netflix.com issue because they don't want to support anything other than Google Chrome on Linux. You can bypass this if you use pipelight, I've got netflix working great on my Linux Mint laptop in firefox... however that d...

Re: Power/Voltage Issues on B+

oh, i spent too much money getting rPi right power, I'm glad you got it all squared away. Poorly made chargers are definitely a big problem and I wish there was something we could do to more readily address it beyond warning people away from 99 cent adapters off eBay. (and sometimes even those 5 do...

Re: WiFi connecting two RBP's w/o router

Yes, that is completely possible. You'll want to read up on configuring an "ad-hoc" wifi connection in Linux. Except that there isn't a WiFi dongle that I've found that supports ad-hoc. You'd need to set one up as an access point with hostapd and the other as a regular infrastructure client. I stan...

Re: Windows on the Pi (Yes, again…!)

I ran win 3.1 on Dosbox back when the Pi was very first released and I've seen others use dosbox to run win95, the question is is there anyway to conclusively know, outside time consuming testing, which dos emulator would run the fastest on the pi?

Re: WiFi connecting two RBP's w/o router

So your basic problem is that you want to wirelessly connect to Pis to each other over a distance of about 200 feet out in the open, and you want to do it without a access point somewhere in the middle. Yes, that is completely possible. You'll want to read up on configuring an "ad-hoc" wifi connecti...

Is there a way to update fw without having to flash my SD card? (since I can't login nor ssh)

/per
If you have an older Pi that the SD card did boot in, you can plug it back into that Pi and do a "sudo rpi-update" which will update the firmware on the SD card to the latest.

So after I read your link and blog, I am kindda dissapointed in rPi, it is underpovered from the beginning if you add camera board? I am just a user, i want to plug and play, I do fair amount of research before I buy (right power suply, right components) but than to find out it has flaw from the st...

Re: Samba issues/alternative for Windows 7+

Samba is a pain to get set up no matter what linux device your using (so I promise this isn't just a Pi thing ;-) ) Here's the samba configurations I'm using for my network share. A couple words of warning about it first. This is a wide open share. Once someone is actually on my network, I don't car...

Try following the posts here http://superuser.com/questions/84446/how-to-mount-a-hfs-partition-in-ubuntu-as-read-write It looks like you have two options. You might want to give openElec a try, it at a more stable release than the alpha OSMC is at presently.

Re: Not syncing

Are you trying to say you have a Model B (not model B+ or Pi2) Raspberry Pi and that it has an external drive that isn't mounting correctly, or are you seeing the error message "VFS not syncing" when your pi is booting? If it's the former how are you trying to mount the drive? If it is the later, it...

Let's keep it civil people. It's good and appropriate to talk about the technical pitfalls of one option over another as they presently exist, but ad hominem attacks because of the way something used to be is needlessly below the belt.

Re: xbmc on Pi 2

If you were strictly looking for a media device I'd personally go with openElec right now. RaspBMC and openElec are fairly equal all things considered so it might be worth trying them both out and seeing which one you like more, but last time I tested them out (before the Pi2 was released) openElec ...

Re: Pianobar not running - no TLS error just failing to load

This is a common, reoccurring problem with Pianobar. Basically, every so often Pandora's SSL certificate expires and when they update it they sometimes change the TLS handsake. It's pretty dumb on their part, but that's their choice. Anyways, the problem the version of Pianobar in the repositories i...

Same issue here, after changing ip to static, got stuck at boot(configuring network interfaces). The re-flashing is not an option here. Now that Siemens owns Wonderware (kinda?) I wonder what will happen to the FactoryLink product line. They also recently(ish) bought up the ScadaPACK line of PLCs so it will be interesting to see what they choose to let rot and what they choose to integrate and expand on.

Really off topic here, but I was curious how many people on the forums have used a piece of industrial software called Wonderware (also called Intouch, and Invsys, and ArchestrA...)
