Re: Raspberry Pi 3B aarch64 boot from USB

I have no experience of arch, but I know U-boot can be picky about USB drives. Some devices work, others don't.

Re: Pls help with headers

Kali isn't supported on here. Speaking for everyone else again? I have no experience of kali Linux, but taking a minute to look at their built script it seems to be debian based with a kernel built from the pi git sources. If it was me I would switch to the standard debian armhf kernel (bootable on...

Re: Voltage normalised (0x00000000)

Perhaps the next Pi should include pads we can solder to so as to completely avoid the micro USB port, while still retaining the polyfuse protection. +1 Or some sort of header. The micro USB port is problematic even with an official power supply (for example I've had undervoltage warnings with no p...

Re: Write Raspbian img to external drive partition

It is possible to write a partition from an image file to a partition on a drive. Or you could just use the cp -a command to transfer the files. The complicated bit is booting the pi. If you want to just boot with the USB drive then you need the bootloader files on partition number 1 (it can be anyw...

Re: Looking for a Guru's Help Setting Up Lubuntu on RPi3+

Step by step instructions 1. Wait for release of 18.04 LTS for RPi3 to appear here: https://ubuntu-pi-flavour-maker.org/download/ 2. Follow instructions listed at link. Then you'll be waiting over 6 weeks. I don't really see the practical sense of using it over Raspbian on Raspberry Pi as they are ...

You could also use the debian-installer to install on the pi. I put a bit about it on this post viewtopic.php?f=50&t=210336#p1298879

Re: Ubuntu Server 18.04 arm64 on RPi3B+

When you say it doesn't boot into Ubuntu server, do you mean you can't get the installed system to run, or do you mean you can't get the installer to run? I wrote the instructions you are following so it would really help if you could be a bit more descriptive in what you've done and what you are se...

Hey Bob, how are you? I've posted on the Ethereum Stack Exchange as well, but I don't think there are many people out there running nodes on Rpis. Not a lot of information about this error, at least. Re: Overlays and A/B rootfs?

A lot of config.txt seems to me to be just converted to kernel command line boot parameters. I wonder if the boot parameters could be just used on their own, without the config.txt entries? Also is the config.txt really going to be different between A/B? Could the A/B boot contents be copied to diff...

Uboot can apply overlays.

As I understand it uboot can use the dtb passed to it by the pi firmware, or it can load its own.

Ubuntu users tend to hang out on here at the random collection of posts at the bottom of the 'other' operating system sub-forum. Have you had a look at the instructions at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ARM/RaspberryPi ? A basic approach would be to install the server image and then install the lubuntu-des...

I've never understood the 'other' OS sub-forum. Surely I'm not the only person who took a long time to realise that there was a random section of posts at the bottom of the page? I've also never understood what goes in General Discussion, Advanced, Beginners, Troubleshooting. It would be better if t...

Ubuntu server's config.txt is at /boot/firmware/config.txt. The boot partition is mounted at /boot/firmware.

To speed up boot time remove the cloudimage packages.

Is there another file I have to copy in order to get the camera working with the ubuntu mate image? Maybe some files from /lib/firmware? You are stalling at the rainbow screen, so the kernel hasn't yet been loaded. Maybe a mismatch between the different bootloader files? I don't have a camera, I'm ...
