Re: The Raspberry Pi Desktop OS 64 bit

I think a lot of these discussions miss a crucial point: that is the application support. ARM is not a priority for many application developers, but if they are going to have some sort of arm machine then it will probably be arm64. So I think you are more likely to have Firefox jit working in arm64 ...

Re: Mesa driver much slower on Stretch than on Jessie

If it was me i'd raise a bug on the debian bug tracker. I'm not sure if they will be interested though if the problem can't be reproduced on the architectures they support.

Re: Mesa driver much slower on Stretch than on Jessie

Vc4 fkms has the same config.txt options as the legacy driver. Scrolling in Chromium is considerably slower using it than the legacy driver, so I agree it is not for everyone at the moment.

Re: Ubuntu-MATE 16.04 Error On Raspberry Pi

Raspbian does not work either That suggests to me that the raspbian kernel (which U-mate uses) doesn't support your hardware. Maybe others on here can chime in on this? If you want to play with the Ubuntu server image then copy it to your sd card and check it boots. If it does then write it to your...

Re: Ubuntu-MATE 16.04 Error On Raspberry Pi

Sorry, can you give me a bit more background? What is the ultimate goal here? Boot without an sd card? Have you tried this on raspbian and got it working?

It seems you've got the kernel loaded, changed the cmdline, so I think that just leaves /etc/fstab to check.

Re: The Raspberry Pi Desktop OS 64 bit

Opensuse was I think the first and possibly the best. I have a Ubuntu bias and created a lubuntu ISO for the pi 3 (https://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=190511 ) so you can use that if you just want to try arm64. The boot is really slow compared to raspbian, but that is mainly due to th...

Re: The Raspberry Pi Desktop OS 64 bit

You can get a 64 bit os in nearly every distro (except raspian) I think. What is your normal linux distro of choice?

Why are you using a usb drive and a sd card together? Missed the pi 2 bit.

I put some notes together about booting the ubuntu server image - https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ARM/RaspberryPi#USB_booting

It's best to gently correct than jump down people's throats, especially when new members. This. As a new reader of the forum I am shocked by how...

Re: Window borders in Pixel

Am I the only one that hates windows without borders? Nope. I also think it must be quite difficult for somebody who is visually impaired. Most distros have a theme manager, I'm surprised raspbian (which I don't use) doesn't. Telling somebody to Google is not at all helpful (sadly this is the respo...

A vine can wither through neglect. It can also wither because some vandal pours glyphosate on it.

Ubuntu is refocusing its business and IoT is one of the things it sees as the future of the business. It's madness if the raspberry pi foundation doesn't take advantage of this.

Re: Ubuntu Mate with Raspbian kernel: New Firefox 55.0.1 crashes on startup

Ubuntu-Mate uses the same kernel as Raspbian. It doesn´t use the ubuntu kernels, it is 32 bit only, and doesn´t use u-boot. Whilst I accept that a query about Firefox would be an appropriate question for the u-m forum, it certainly is not an appropriate place for questions about ubuntu core, server ...

This forum isn´t particularly friendly. If your intention is to drive ubuntu users away, then it is working.

Re: Packaging customized kernel modules and DT overlays

https://github.com/raspberrypi/linux/issues ? I don't think force loading a compiled module is a good idea. The rpi kernels can take big jumps in version numbers and you don't know what has changed. I don't know a lot about raspbian. Are there different kernels in raspbian that are more like the deb...

Re: Packaging customized kernel modules and DT overlays

Normally distributions (like Ubuntu etc) package the header files of the kernels. Then you can use dkms to automatically compile your module. This can be packaged up easily for other users to then use. It is how proprietary drivers work.

Wobbly windows in stretch

Compiz 0.8 debs - https://1drv.ms/u/s!AvHY_kl4hMB4fJFan7Ya7mKeJrk Move the files to an empty folder and from there sudo dpkg -i *.deb It will complain about missing dependencies. So sudo apt-get -f install should hopefully sort it. To launch compiz --replace I think you'll be impressed by the progre...
