I mount /home/pi/.cache to tmpfs at boot every time
i.e. this folder do not need backup

You can use zram for swap and tmpfs for folders /tmp, /var/log, /var/cache/apt/archives

PS old script did not take into account small files

I use USB-boot for backup SD
I plugout SD, plugin USB-storage with Raspbian-Lite, and boot from it.
Then system from USB was started, I plugin SD and copy image SD to USB-storage

Ok. I try last time.

For example, I open 2016-05-27-raspbian-jessie-lite.img with 7zip in Windows
Inside I look 2 files: 0.fat, 1.img
I open 1.img, then open folder lib, then folder modules
What I see? I see 4.4.11
