Re: Ubuntu Snappy Core for Pi 3

Well it's in Java and I'm cross-compiling from source so there doesn't need to be... I have some software built from Java. The compiled binaries are portable across Windows, Linux, MacOS. It does not matter whether they are 32 or 64 bit versions. They also run quite happily on both Intel and ARM ba...

Re: Rpi on a Windows Network

You definitely do NOT need to install Samba to connect to Windows shares. The SMBD and NMBD programs are the server components that run on Linux to allow it to serve CIFS shares to Windows and are not required if you want to connect the other way. I have my Pi's set up to connect to Windows shares w...

Re: Putty Not working

What type of connection are you trying to use in putty (telnet or ssh)? Sounds as if you selected the wrong one.

Also, what OS are you trying to use? If you are using NOOBS then until you have installed an OS ( e.g. Raspbian) and booted into it then you cannot make a connection via putty.

You cannot.

Adobe requires an Intel compatible CPU while the Pi has an ARM CPU.

When trying to run a small .exe program, it says i need to find where the QEMU application to run in. After intensive searching, it brings up nothing. Could I have some help please? That will probably be because the .exe file is intended for an Intel processor, while the Pi has an ARM processor. Th...

You need to give more information such as:
- How did you install Apache?
- What sort of error re you getting?

I run apache on one of my {i's without any issues.

Re: How to connect Hard drive to RPi with Openelec OS

How are you powering the Hard drive? The Pi will not be able to provide enough power via USB so it needs to be connected via a Powered hub.

The bottleneck will be the USB connection. This will apply to any fast media connected via USB.

Re: Run command through terminal after startx boots up

Have you tried doing a normal startx command to get the GUI desktop; open a terminal window from there; and then try the command in the terminal window? As at that point X has already been initialised it should run OK.

Re: My raspberry only shows 300MB of memory?

Could someone advise what a safe amount of GPU memory would be if I am using Plex/XBMC to stream up to 1080P movies at times? Should I leave it the way it is? I would like to lower it, because as you can see from my 'free -m' output, I am just about hitting the top. The output from free is of limit...

The problem is that it won't run intel binaries, which is what people really mean when they want windows.
However even RT is not Windows on ARM6 (as used in the Pi) !

Re: Cant connect via Remote Desktop

If you want touse Remote Desktop to connect to a RPi, then you need to install the xrdp package at the RPI end. Once you have done that it should work without any further setup required at RPi end. You might want to configure the Remote Desktop client on Windows to use reduced color depth or screen ...

Re: How do I find out whcih version of Raspbian I have insta

I very much doubt that you will be able to use drivers from the HP site as they will be for Intel based versions of Linux rather than the ARM based versions used by the RPi.

I am sure that I have seen other posts on this site about setting up printers for the RPi.

It could well be pwer relayed! That would explain why activating eth0 stops wlan0 working. The extra power required by eth0 is not leaving enough for the EdiMax.

The clicking sound guests that the HDD might not be getting sufficient power. However you mention it is externally powered so maybe that is not the cause.

Another option is to use the Pi itself by booting off your backup SD card with the problem SD card in a USB SD Card reader (assuming you have a free USB port on the Pi) plugged in to the Pi via USB.

There is no onboard Bluetooth. As you surmised if you want to use Bluetooth you need an appropriate USB adaptor. I have good success with even the cheapest adaptors if they are based on the Cambridge Radio chipset.

It is highly likely that keyboard needs more power than the Pi can supply. You really want a very basic USB keyboard with no extra functions.

The limited RAM available on the Pi is likely to mean that this is not a viable approach even if it is technically possible to run a virtual machine.
