Etcher does not recognize OS .zip files downloads ?

I am using this https://www.raspberrypi.org/downloads/ to download clean OS onto my PC then trying to use Etcher to copy it to SD. Etcher does not recognize .zip files as OS files. Are there some incompatibility issues here I am missing? Running Ubuntu OS 64 bits and downloaded Etcher for Linux 64 b...

Sorry but IT quit on me

There are no network lights , because ....something about root cannot be loaded But they flash during part of the boot process. I was doing normal stuff - loading my software via network and got no response from RPi. No network connection. Besides getting new 3B what are my options to find out what ...

SPI and RPi config

SPI is enabled in RPi configuration. Looking thru ILI9341 library it goes thru few "pin mode" steps. Realizing the library is very universal - where is the "link" between RPi SPI I/O configuration and ILI9341 library? Or is there ? Do I still need to assign correct SPI pins and their mode in my C++ ...

TJCTM24028 SPI

I feel stupid , but I have to ask. I have this display clearly marked as TJCTM28024 "SPI" module The only visible chip is XPT2046 and its sparse data sheet states it is "TFT controller". It seems I am the only one with LCD module marked as TJCTM 28024, which makes me feel special. However, people wi...

ILI9341 commands response

I decided to post a separate question about ILI9341. This chip / LCD display controller has extensive datasheet https://cdn-shop.adafruit.com/datasheets/ILI9341.pdf Most users probably do not need it since the hardware is "wrapped up" in numerous "libraries". I like to know if ANY of these libraries...

Re: ILI9341 using ioctl

That is exactly what I am doing now. I do have "memory mapped "GPIO so it is about time I used it. I have bee looking at the "message" macro and cannot figure out how I can switch from command to data to receive the device response. From spec it is not clear - I need to look at "4 wire write / read ...

ILI9341 using ioctl

This is sort of repost / follow up on my other post - invite to discussion about using ioctl. This is NOT how to wire / use SPI display on Raspberry , this is C++ code ramblings. I am developing for Raspberry Pi Zero running Linux OS, hence I like to use Linux ioctl functions. That is my specificati...

Re: SPI real example for TFT

Please read the post.
I need generic / any device sample to guide me.
I do not need "cut and paste" code

PS
I found this , it is not exact;y what I wanted to do - no ioctl

SPI real example for TFT

Can someone send me a link describing the actual data I have to send to SPI device? The display I have has no "module" spec, I only have datasheet for the controller chip and it has no such info. I do not want "Wire.h" - I am learning how to use ioctl and need the "low level" stuff. I know i have to...

Re: Raspberry Zero power spec?

Great article. Little scary since I did not first notice they describe DIFFERENT I/O header than what is used on RPi 3B. Still one cannot keep from wondering WHY Raspberry "foundation" cannot provide such info. Broadcom is pretty much same issue. Perhaps their philosophy is same as another "popular"...

SPI with C/D ?

I have rather odd TFT display I am using to learn how to code SPI. According to "standard" SPI I need 4 wires for interface to RPi. Now the "standard" naming seems to be eluding some vendors. I can relate standard /SS to /CS - useful to enable more devices on single SPI bus MOSI MISO is a different ...

I am working on attaching TFT display using SPI. Apparently FBTFT "module" is to way to implement framebuffer #1. - fb1 The RPi uses fb0 to communicate to HDMI port, fine . This atached link article goes on "CHANGING " (?) what configuration (?) to make fb1 as NEW communication port on SPI. That is ...

Re: How much external power from Zero?

I guess you have more then one magic finger since NOBODY else could come up with schematic. Few things stand up from "schematic" There are two 3,3V pins on header - nice The "processor" runs on 1.8 V - so how does it manage to put 5V on GPIO ? Or does it or better yet - has to? Perhaps one has to ma...

This maybe not be appropriate here , but I'll try anyway. Re: How much external power from Zero?

I do not want to start another debate about the subject , however
the unofficial schematic for RPi 3b clearly identifies distribution of 3,3 V from 5 V - via 3.3 regulator.
The question or speculation remains - how does Zero gets 3.3V output?

Yes, I am planning to use 3.3v whenever possible.

Re: How much external power from Zero?

No, I do not have real data. Just starting from source - Zero. The load will vary. For example small 2.8 TFT takes whopping 80mA for backlight! But on my 4x20 LCD I can turn the backlight off in software. Here is AD9851 DDS chip "power" straight from datasheet Low Power: 555 mW @ 180 MHz Power-Down ...

How much external power from Zero?

My project calls for several I/O devices - 2.8 TFT , LCD (via I2C expander), DDS chip and possibly more whose power will be supplied via Zero . Since this is going to be portable application I like to know HOW much power I can get from Zero header power pins +5V ( pins 2 / 4 ) and 3.3V (pin 1). For ...

OK, I am done fiddling with I2C connected LCD. It does what I need - so onto another I/O device. Will use ioctl "module" again... Re: Raspberry Zero power spec?

No problem. I am keeping a "lab log" of my development and found thus note "60mA " of power consumption of Zero - "unconfirmed". Then I recall I got it from somebody who measured Zero power draw. Nothing to indicate Zero port power output, of course. But seem to follow the same "business" trend of n...
