Re: Relay Module KY-019 5V

Yes, Codeacademy has changed, and from my POV not for the better. I can no longer recommend them, as I used to do. That's a shame, it was brilliant when I used it. I suppose it shows how quickly things change and how it is not always in a good direction. Having logged back in I see the 'free' cours...

You could try this... https://www.codecademy.com Codecademy seems good if you wish to learn many programming languages in a short time and becomes a pro. But to become a codecademy pro, you need to pay up . Apologies for that, when I used Codecademy it was some time ago and I didn't need to pay for...

I have one of these in a drawer at home. My Father bought it way back in the 70's:

It stills works... mostly. If I recall a segment of the highest order digit has died.

Re: Relay Module KY-019 5V

I have recently bought some 220VAC 15W LED lamps. They use transformers (I guess from 220VAC to 12/24DAC) and say they are flicker free. Unlikely, almost always capacitive-dropper circuits nowadays. BigClive on Youtube does some interesting tear-downs of this sort of thing and reverse engineers the...

How about a short extension lead, so the Pi PSU can rest on top of wall bracket.

Poundland have some short 3 way extensions I have found quite useful.

According to the waveshare info the device uses the UART (https://pinout.xyz/pinout/uart).
You connected it to the SPI pins (https://pinout.xyz/pinout/spi)
Looks like pins 16 (BCM 23) and 20 (Ground) to me, not SPI

Re: Waveshare 4.3 e-Paper

Reading the connections required for Arduino, the connections look wrong to me. Red and Black are power as far as I can tell, but you have white and blue connected to the power pins on the RPi. Are you continuing the colour convention set out in the ePaper manual or are you using different colours? ...

You might find your motor is small enough that any arcing is minimal and unlikely to give you problems.

Re: Relay Module KY-019 5V

I would imagine that switching inductive mains loads (like motors) may causing momentary arcing between the relay contacts when the circuit is broken. This could possibly be inductively coupled back into the low voltage side and affect the controller or computer. Some sort of snubber network across ...

Re: Relay Module KY-019 5V

The only problem you might have with a Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor is it might not start by itself. They usually need either a small push to get them going, I have a clock like that. Or they need a variable frequency drive (Complicated).

Re: Relay Module KY-019 5V

So you had BS1362 fuses in a 6x30mm holder? If so no wonder it was unreliable. BS1362 panel fuse holders exist I believe. When you start using electric motors, you might want to consider changing any glass fuses in circuit to ceramic ones, like the BS1362. Genuine BS1362 fuses have quartz sand in th...

Re: Relay Module KY-019 5V

As a general rule, yes, but a fuse-holder is hardly a complicated thing and even a cheap one should serve its purpose.

Just had a thought... Have you got the correct sized fuse in the holder? Is it possible the fuses you have are too short for the holder and not pressing the contacts properly?

Re: Relay Module KY-019 5V

Ah! But those checks are not "testing" the project in the same sense that TDD uses testing. In TDD the tests are to see that the desired functionality of the project is being achieved. The checks you made were simply checks that the thing was safe to even turn on. I would also say that this is not a...

Re: Windspeed won't go to zero

I would have expected "wind_speed" to be a rolling average over a shorter time period. At the moment it looks to me like it is the mean of all speed measurements since the program started running. So in theory if the wind died completely and didn't pick up again, the read-out of wind_speed would nev...

Re: Relay Module KY-019 5V

When we construct metal encased systems we are required to create a single main earth stud, typically a larger diameter than all the others. To this is tied the incoming mains earth, or in the case of industrial or marine systems a separate earth strap to an earth bar or the hull. All other panels o...

Afraid so. I just use it for tinkering. I did at least change the password ;-)

I'm just going to burn a new image to the card. I just wanted to try and understand what had happened.
