Auto poweroff when power bank low?

Is it possible to use a USB power bank and have the Raspberry Pi automatically (cleanly) shutdown when the power bank's level is critically low?

Re: Boot from USB stick?

The USB HDD might need a powered USB hub. Use dd or winimage to write the image to the USB stick rather than the sdcard. Format the sdcard as FAT and copy the files from the FAT partition of the USB stick onto the sdcard (only needs to be about 64M in size). Change cmdline.txt on sdcard from root=/d...

Re: Official Touchscreen Display Questions

I think you are supposed to use "Recommended peripherals", but a forum dedicated to "screens" might be a good idea as there have been many threads about that topic. The desktop display (startx) does go blank after a period of no input . It is immediately refreshed by just touching the screen. I sup...

Re: Kids computer addiction

Just lock them in their rooms with a bunch of Pi and other machines. Slide pizza under the door a couple of times a day. Eventually they will escape and go an work for Facebook, Google or some such. That's a friendlier version of Karen Anderson's (widow of SF author Poul Anderson) "bung hole" theor...

If you're in Australia, the the ACL applies and therefore they must replace or refund the entire product if dosen't last for a reasonable amount of time.

Now with the Pi 3 with 1GB ram and 1.2ghz default clock is it possible I wonder if you are trying to state that it is possible or whether you are trying to write a question? Any which way, the fact is that you might be able to get GNOME3 started on a pi, but it will be unusable. Right now I am runn...

Weather Station for non-schools

When I read the blog poast about the weather station, it said that it was for schools and there were none left. I was thinking if the RPF could release the schematics for the PCB and provide a BOM so you can buy and make the parts for yourself? :ugeek:

For the Compute Module 3, I can find documentation on how to flash it using a Windows computer or a Linux box. But I can't find Instructions on how to flash it on a Mac. For the Compute Module 3 Lite, I assume you flash the SD Card with dd and insert it into the microSD slot on the I/O board. Am I r...

Re: Tech Specs for PiDrive 314GB and 1TB.... nowhere to be f

There's absolutely no point having a drive faster than the bus speed (USB 2.0) Part of the problem is that Pis have a USB 2.0 interface. The PiDrive has a USB 3.0. So the limit to transfer speed is the Pi, not the PiDrive. A Pi3B will transfer data at a bit better than 30MB/s. An SBC with a USB 3.0 ...
