I can't say if it is the lightest or fastest to boot but you could consider tinycore Linux. picoreplayer uses it and once booted runs entirely from RAM. The new release http://forum.tinycorelinux.net/index.php/board,69.0.html ,piCore-7.0beta1, runs on RPi A/B/B+/2/0 It comes with MicroPython too ...

Do yourself a favour, and go buy a powered USB 2.0 hub. You will need it to add WiFi or Ethernet anyway. I have one and the dongle is connected to it. Still not working.
