SD Card Format tool

As mentioned in the download section, a new SD card needs to be formatted by tools from this link : https://www.sdcard.org/downloads/formatter_4/ but as there are no tools mentioned for Linux users what is the best Linux alternative for that ?
Can I use Gparted ?

Dimentions

Thanks all of you. I am just repeating my question to get more sure. Are the chinese version, the ones with red coloured board, also of the same dimension ? Moreover, is there any difference in quality or features / embedded language etc that is different in the Chinese version as compared to the UK...

Re: Red RPi

I read that article b4 i posted it here and i also mentioned it in my first post on this thread. But still not sure why there could be any problem in availability when Farnell provides a home delivery with cash on delivery service here. I bought my first Pi that way. If every thing is 'exactly' the ...

Re: Red RPi

I am not concerned about the colour I am actually interested to know if there is any difference in quality or from technical point of view. If it is 'exactly' the same then why two versions ? If there was some embedded software in it and that was made in Chinese language for the Chinese version, the...

I am living in China since some years and so I have access to both the Green (International) and Red (Chinese) version of Raspberry Pi. All about Pi and Linux is worth to study, and it cost time.
Maybe, this forum is a good resource for us all in China to get support and help from.
;) wish to see "中文版" in very soon.
那你已经买了吗 ? 我想告诉我的很多朋友,我要他们也买和用 Pi, 可是他们要中文的 OS. 你请告诉我怎么用中文。 :)

Re: DSL Linux

DSL has been abandoned for quite some time. No, it doesn't work on a Pi (it is made for x86 machines). The new kid on the block (in the world of Mini Live Distros) is Puppy Linux , which has a alpha RPi port. ghans DSL has been started again. But may be it does not supports ARM. I am not sure abt t...

OMG! Please read! The answer is right here! Look at my link posted a few messages before. Re: imaging the image for backup purposes?

It's just like imaging your SD card, except your input file is the SD and your output file is the new image that you want. Example: dd if=/dev/sdd of=~/my.raspi.backup.img My SD card is of 16 Gb but there is slightly more than 2 Gb of data. When i tried the dd command to make an img file of my card...

Re: Why there is no basic media player on wheezy

Which is the most light weight media player but also supports most of the formats ? omxplayer is the most lightweight (doesn't require X windows to be running) and is the only GPU accelerated one (and thus only H.264 and Xvid) You can try mplayer, but you'll probably only get about 15 fps omxplayer...

Re: Static IP

The 'lo' interface is the loopback interface, you should keep the 'auto lo' part uncommented (without the # infront) to not break applications that rely on it. The DNS server address goes into /etc/resolv.conf , like this: nameserver 192.168.6.10 You can put as many lines in there as you want, thou...
