Use BFQ?

I have kernel 4.12 working just fine compiled from source. However if I try to enable BFQ support, RPi fails to boot. In fact it does not seem to be able to grok the sdcard at all. In the cmdline.txt I simply changed elevator=deadline to elevator=bfq and compiled the kernel with the BFQ options. The...

Re: Which kernel?

Well, I went with 4.12.

This is actually for (internal) production use so I'm creating an sdcard which will be cloned to all new pis' we use for RnD purposes. It just seemed that 4.12 with it's bugfixes is probably safer than 4.13 which has not been patched at all yet.

Which kernel?

It seems Debian (and hence RPi) will be sticking with kernel 4.9 for foreseeable future. There's one really nice feature in 4.10, patch for (sdcard) writebacks. Basically what this does is throttle the writes so that filesystem operations on a slow block device (sdcard) will not pile up on a long qu...

SD card Low Latency Mode

Does someone know what this actually does? Googling gives you a couple of hits and that's about committing the changes. No actual discussion what it is or why would you want it. The RT PREEMPT RPi howto guy says "Most people also disable the Low Latency Mode (llm) for the SD card". Cool, but why? It...

Re: Does F2FS make sense?

The writeback throttling option is great, thought. No problem to tar -jvcf patched-linux-source linux/* at all. You opens chromium, you browses web, you closes chromium..

Try that without the option enabled in 4.10 kernel and chromium opens in a few minutes if you're lucky.

Does F2FS make sense?

There are a fair few HOWTOs on how to make F2FS happen with RPi, no problem there. however, does it actually work any better than EXT4? There's old thread about it but it tests USB stick, not actually running RPi from a F2FS formatted µSD.. https://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=653...

Re: Resize image for use on a smaller sd card

I spent a lot of quality time on this. The shrink script does automate the process to a degree except it can't determine the truncate length automatically. I'm surprised there's no imaging tool that'd just do it, similar to the paragon backup. If you don't already have a linux set up somewhere with ...
