I imagine the OP has found the answer by now, but in case someone else with the problem ends up here. There's an interestng post here that might be useful: https://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=133691 which was referred to a couple of replies into this post: https://raspberrypi.stackexc...

Re: Desktop Proxy / VPN Switcher

I was about to suggest that you might be able to do it using a bash script and zenity. Something I often do when I want a quick and easy GUI to enter variables into a bash script. That made me wonder if someone else had already tried it and I found this: About: "This Zproxy is a Zenity based Bash Sc...

Re: How do I show sensors Ubuntu?

I'm guessing you are getting this message at the end of the Terminal after running sudo sensors-detect: Sorry, no sensors were detected. Either your system has no sensors, or they are not supported, or they are connected to an I2C or SMBus adapter that is not supported. If you find out what chips ar...

Quick Change Random Wallpaper for Pi Desktop - (NOT a Slideshow)

This is one of my 'long winded' posts because it is written for 'baginners' in as simple language as I can and trying not to leave anything to guesswork. Have you been a little frustrated when changing Wallpaper on the Pi Desktop? The default procedure is: Right click on the Desktop > Left click on ...

I'm a little curious about this as well, but for Internet over WiFi, not things like ssh. On an Internet connection The Pi 4, about 4 metres from the router is only getting average Downloads of 60 Megabits/second (about 7.5 MegaBytes/second) and Uploads averaging about 37 Megabits/second (around 4.6...

Re: Pi-4: Python shell (idle) is missing - why?

I've sort of given up most programming due to brain injuries, but I did look at Thonny when I got my Pi 4 out of curiosity and it has a built in shell - like IDLE. Try this and maybe let me know if it works. Open Thonny from the Programming section of the menu. It should open with some large icons, ...

So I offer you two versions. One of the neat things about trying to help someone on the forum is that even 'fossils' can learn new stuff. I thought apt-get had been more or less just superseded by apt, and didn't check the details. On my bigger Kubuntu systems I use PackageKit (pkcon) almost exclus...

Re: Raspberry Pi 4 Video Tearing Problem Playing on Chromium

Does your application 'require' Chromium? Mine is not tearing using this command on a 1080p video that is on my SD card: chromium-browser file:///home/pi/Videos/Glider-Touchdown-in-Rain-15m-LS8-e-neo.mp4 However if the video is on YouTube or a similar site it sometimes tears, so I start Chromium in ...

I have something similar on my Pi 4, but linked to an icon on a side panel, that I added specifically for running my bash scripts (with an icon each) by a single click. Re: How do I show sensors Ubuntu?

Not sure if this covers your needs, but most will be covered by the tools included. Search lm-sensors in your favourite search engine and wikipedia and you'll probably also find an explanation and/or demo on YouTube as well. sudo apt install lm-sensors. Then use whatever is applicable. EDIT: I know t...

Re: Pi4 as Desktop computer

I agree - rotating three cards might prevent that, But I have a complete backup of the /home/pi directory to an SSD regularly, and if I ever kill two SDs it is a simple matter to image a new one and copy the Pi directory across from the new one. But I've been lucky over the years with computers incl...

Re: What folders to backup, if I want to clone the device?

If you run the SD card copier in 'Accessories' in your menu, it may be better NOT to use a smaller SD card unless you are sure it has enough space to take 'everything' that is on the card you are using :) (Easy to do if you forget your glasses). It is handy to have a spare card with everything on it...

I'm running mine off a Samsung EVO plus 128GB microSD card. I'm still 'experimenting' with doing as much ordinary day to day stuff as possible with the Pi 4, and just had to use my Celeron powered BRIX BACE3150 with 8GB RAM and an SSD, to do some printing. What I noticed immediately on booting the raspberry Pi again was: How quickly the Pi boots ready to wor...

Re: Omxplayer not working properly on Raspberry Pi 4

Are you using omxplayer, or omxplayerGUI ? I have been using omxplayerGUI (part of the kweb Minimal Kiosk Browser suite) for years. It allows you to easily modify lots of settings, and has an excellent manual. Also, I noticed that while it plays most videos up to 1080p more smoothly than VLC etc., i...

I'm running buster on an RPi 4 4GB. The RPi is connected to a Samsung TV by HDMI cable. I don't know if this has been answere...

Re: VLC wont run properly (even after uninstall and re-install)

I have a similar problem that recurs occasionally/regularly. VLC sometimes attempts to run, but fails, then any time I try to restart it from the menu, it flat out refuses to do anything except show the hour glass. Eventually I noticed that there was an icon in the Panel which meant it 'should' have...

Re: Dual Out Power Supply for 4 and 3.

No idea where you are splangie, but if you are an Aussie, I have bought my LASER power adapters from Big-W. They are about $20 or so. The USB splitter cable was cheap off eBay. One lead is meant for data, and one has a REd band on it for power, but either (in this case both) can deliver power. Which...

This might not solve your problem, but it is worth checking if you right clicked the volume icon in the panel to switch from HDMI to Analog and / or back again. On my Pi 4 every time I swap between the HDMI sound out to the TV, or the Analog sound out to the stereo system using right click, the volu...

Re: Dual Out Power Supply for 4 and 3.

The most I can find is a dual outlet USB charger that puts out 2.4A from each USB port for a total of 4.8A. Which happens to be what I am using to run just the Pi 4 for the last couple of days, using both outlets into a single USB female socket via a Y-cable. (USB splitter cable) The think in the pi...
