Re: 3.5" display that have extra GPIO pins for use

I have one of the original Black Hat Hack3r boards and a couple of the Mini Black Hat Hack3r boards, the pHat stack is on my wish list for future purchases. https://shop.pimoroni.com/products/mini-black-hat-hack3r?variant=19448025991 If you solder a female header on the bottom side of a Pi Zero, you...

Re: 3.5" display that have extra GPIO pins for use

If you mount a Proto Hat https://www.adafruit.com/product/2310
with a stacking header https://www.adafruit.com/product/1979
Between your Pi and display you can access any unused GPIO pins.
You'll also need these standoffs https://www.adafruit.com/product/2337

Re: Components and Pins

Yeah, the long solderless breadboards are often laid out like two small ones end to end, with a break in the middle.
In the old days you'd have +Vcc on one end and -Vcc on the other end. Nowadays most just jumper it so its one long power rail.

Re: Components and Pins

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Breadboard The solderless breadboard should have two power rails down each side. Two rows of connected pins. I would wire / jumper +5V and ground on one side and 3.3v and ground on the other side. The two grounds will be common so no need to connect them together. You ...

Re: Raspberry Pi 4 temperature

Now that you mention it, I do remeber seeing issues with the original (non Micro) friction fit SD card slots. Loss of connection on some pins or something? I never owned a Pi with that card holder. And some issues with the click in, click out, slots. I have some Pi's with those, A+'s. Working fine f...

Re: Raspberry Pi 4 temperature

Most of the broken card holder posts I've seen were the result of not removing the card, before trying to remove the Pi from a case. The card edge hooks on the case and the card and or holder gets broken in the process.

Re: Pi Zero vs Zero W - power consumption (or A+?)

The A+ does not have WIFI, so I would expect it to be similar to a Zero with USB ethernet. It does have a full sized USB port though. The 3A+ has WIFI but is going to use a fair bit more power. https://www.raspberrypi.org/documentation/faqs/#pi-power I use this with my Zero's https://shop.pimoroni.c...

Re: Using GPIO Pins that are blocked from a touch screen

I do it quit often. I usually mount a Proto Hat on a stacking header between my Pi and my Hat. Then feed what ever signals I need to my breakout boards from the Proto hat.

Yes, I ran my Pi 3B for quite awhile on an old Acer monitor with an HDMI cable and an HDMI-DVI adapter. Worked great.

Thats the way I went, it lets me swap the official cables depending on what Pi I'm using with that spare monitor.

Re: Pi4: Are HATs practical anymore?

My RTC boards are mounted to Proto Hats. https://www.adafruit.com/product/2310 With a stacking header I can then mount another Hat on top of them. https://www.adafruit.com/product/1979 Not 100% sure what I'm going to do Pi 4 Wise though. My fan shim is currently soldered to a header. I could plug a ...

And people have just bought bare speakers, with the intent to mount them in a project and discovered they need an amplifier to drive them. Like these, https://www.adafruit.com/product/1669 I have a set, I used this to drive them, https://www.adafruit.com/product/987

Re: power on raspberry pi 4 when it gets power

All my Raspberry Pi's boot up as soon as I plug in the power supply? If the power goes off, and then comes back on, they just boot up again. If your SD card gets corrupted when the power fails they won't recover, is that what your wondering about?

I kind or skimmed through this thread but want to mention something I think is relevant. If it has already been mentioned my apologies. The Pi Zero was designed to be able to be back powered though the USB Data port. It's so USB gadget mode works with just the one USB cable and no need for a separat...

My Pi 4B, with the factory eeprom boot code would "not" boot up when I grounded GPIO3. That led me to new boot code here, https://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=117&t=246027 With that new code it "will" now boot up when I ground GPIO 3. I do believe you get that same code if you update t...

A 10 inch version of the official screen would be nice. You'll never ever know if that is going to happen until it actually happens though.
