OpenGL ES using GBM/DRM without root

rpi video output in mpv player uses mmal video output and OpenGL ES for osd. But the legacy opengl es code does not work in RPi 4 . SO I want to replace the dispmanX specific code. There is an example, kmscube which I can not use, because It requires root, and I dont want to give a media player root...

Re: Raspbian Buster Desktop Fonts Hurt My Eyes

I am using latest Raspbian Buster Desktop for the first time on a new Pi4 connected on a 1280x800 lcd display through hdmi. Fonts on desktop, terminal and chromium browser are awful. They are not crisp. It's like the resolution is not set correctly even though it is. Images look sharp and clear, bu...

Re: why xz format not used for distribution of raspbian images

Zip was chosen because it's natively supported by all major operating systems. That's a little less relevant now that zip64 support is required, but that's still much more common than xz support. Just a wish, If you provide both zip compressed image and xz compressed (with option -9e) image only fo...

xz compressed that with -9 and the out of memory killer shot it dead.
How much RAM does your computer have? Is it a Raspberry Pi?
I have compressed the image using level 9 in a Pi4 2GB. Also compressed in a Pi2 two years ago.
never encountered out of memory error.

Size of...
Uncompressed image -> 3.5GB

Re: why xz format not used for distribution of raspbian images

xz takes a little bit more work to decompress and a lot more CPU time to compress. time is not a factor, when it is compressed server side. A pi 2 takes around 5 hours to compress, and pi 4 will take around 1 hour to compress. In the server, x86 computern will be used to compress, which will take m...

Re: why xz format not used for distribution of raspbian images

I don't think it should be a case of .zip or .xz, but better to provide both. There would only be a one-time overhead for building both, so it shouldn't be too onerous to do that. Then all users get to choose which they prefer, whichever suits them best. If there is only going to be one format then...

why xz format not used for distribution of raspbian images

we know that xz format is more efficient compression method. but the raspbian images are distributed in zip compressed image. If xz is used at extreme compression level (level 9), much disk space and bandwidth can be saved. That means Raspbian buster desktop image without recommend softwares, will t...

Re: Menu editor, how to make the terminal open full screen?

the default terminal in raspbian is lxterminal. But it has no commandline options to start it fullscreen. Re: 5V 3A charger?

If you connect a 3A charger, it will not draw 3A. The current it will draw depends upon the usb devices you connected.
So in most cases (connecting mouse, keyboard, flash drive) it will draw current less than 1A

No need to change source code - just go into /usr/share/libfm/archivers.list and make the change suggested above. I'll build a fixed package and push it to the repo at some point, but for now editing that file will work.
Ok, thank you so much.

any workaround for this problem ?
have to edit the source code and change the command

Code: Select all

xarchiver --add-to %F
to

Code: Select all

xarchiver --compress %F
But this should be done by the package maintainers.
I have switched to file-roller (though it has less features).

You have to use FKMS for any 3D support on the pi 4. Also, applications need to be built against mesa, not the legacy libs or headers.
That means RPi specific OpenGL ES code will not work on Raspberry Pi 4. Am I right?
Thanks.
