Re: Ordering and Shipping to Indonesia

RS UK also ships worldwide, but in some places extra DHL charges and customs duties make this a more expensive option, so it might worth be talking to other people in Indonesia who've bought one already.

Re: RS Components : Shipping to France DHL or "La poste"

It might be worth contacting Mike@RS: RaspberryPi@rswww.com
There's another thread somewhere that mentions RS has agreed to change shipping policy to Brazil due to excessive DHL charges; maybe if enough people contact them they'll agree to offer an 'ordinary post' shipping option more generally...

Re: running headless with no peripherals or power

I'm trying to run my oscillating cistern Pi-less, in VM (Vapourware Mode).
But the cistern only oscilates after a flush.
First they said you need to flush a root. That just blocked it.
Then they say 'reboot'.
Reboot? REboot? How can I reboot? It was in Pi-ces after one good kick...

Perhaps you might be interested in a book that discusses issues relating to price and cost-benefit analysis in general? Ok - thanks, that's good.

I ask because I think I read somewhere SD's degrade and decrease in size gradually as you use them; if that's right this will be a common scenario.

Hi I would look at using the media playback functionality of pygame, it already has most of the features you will want like queue etc... http://www.pygame.org/docs/ref/music.html It does say "Be aware that MP3 support is limited. On some systems an unsupported format can crash the program, e.g. Deb...

Hmm - I tried sudo gdm stop, but it appears gdm wasn't running. I'm running Xubuntu 11.10, and it seems this uses LightDm instead of GDM.

But:

Code: Select all

$sudo lightdm stop

Would this do the trick, with the Pi standing in for the Arduino?

(IIRC they use different voltages, but does that matter for these components?)

Re: Bill Gates backs Raspberry Pi in all but name?

Way back when Marx was writing, society was stratified and fixed. That is not true any more -- there are still layers, but they are not fixed. I think social mobility has probably been decreasing for decades; wealth & income inequality have been increasing for decades, and there are good reasons to...

Re: A way to uninstall packages?

Is this the snapshot thing you're after:
http://wiki.debian.org/AptOnCd
or this
http://wiki.debian.org/AptZip

Also apt saves the .deb files in /var/cache/apt/archives . I think you can just copy them to somewhere else and reinstall with dpkg -i. But I'm not sure if/how that handles dependencies :?

You'll know it'll be problem free and much faster.
Tax/duties mean there's no way to spend $100 more. Add $100 to the base price & the overall price goes up by ~ $250. (If customs bother to check the package...)

In Israel there are no taxes or customs release fees on importing of packages valued 75$ or less. Unless you have it shipped by courier, in which case they can ask for customs release fees, handling fees and what not. Even if normally it wouldn't incur any tax at all... That little difference is wh...
