But that said, the Gooseberry looks a bit pricey now that you can get A10 tablets (with screens and all) for about USD75 shipped.

Re: Order and Shipping update from RS & Allied

Order 788XX (20 June) shipped today by DHL (request to send by ordinary airmail completely ignored).

Looks like the backlogs are falling faster than expected: according to the order confirmation despatch was expected within 9 weeks, this was more like 5...

Re: TP-link WN722N without web access?

I thought you'd need to install the packages on your main pc, but the apt-get people have thought of everything, and some kind folks at stackexchange have documented the options.

Re: TP-link WN722N without web access?

I think if you're using linux on the laptop, you can apt-get the relevant packages. The binary (.deb) files will end up in /var/cache/apt/archives. Assuming you have a card reader it ought to be pretty simple to copy them to a convenient directory on your SD - I think the cp command would do the tri...

Thanks for the scans - looks like about 1/2 of the 260k rupiah was duties, so DHL charged an extra 130k (~$14).

I'm collecting reports of these problems HERE in the hope that the Raspberry gods will take pity upon people who dwell in countries where DHL seems to view its business as a form of piracy (or banking). Nice. (Who needs flame-polished acrylic & gold-plating ;) )

Would it be possible to use washers on top of the lower nuts to support the board instead of the little L-shaped bits? (With a plastic washer on top if they might touch anything conductive...)

It's a nifty idea - how much do those chips actually cost?

Re: DHL Charges & "Remote areas"

The solution is to stop ordering from RS. As far as I know they are the ones that send RPi's out via DHL, so the solution would be to order from Element14. That's what I've done. Hopefully that will encourage RS finding a better courier. I'm not sure that's a good solution everywhere, ie if Farnell...

Thanks for the linlap link - unfortunately with OEM products you don't know who the manufacturer is. And the less well known Chinese brands aren't there. So I guess I'd have to go by the hardware components. My current laptop runs Ubuntu nicely, which is why I was thinking similar performance would ...

Unfortunately, until the supplier duopoly is broken, they'll be able to get away with stuff like this.

(Unless perhaps the good folks at the Foundation are prepared to take it up with them.)
