How can I tell if it works?

My own new friend, my own RasPi came today. Hooray. You'd think. But how can I tell whether the lack of anything to SEE is due to SD card not being right, a fault with the RasPi (unlikely, I know), poor PSU (unlikely as it's an RS one and the voltage on test points looks good) or poor connection som...

Re: Invitation to order from RS

RS's debiting of credit cards at the time of order (according to their FAQ) and months ahead of delivery is very concerning. They're treating interest on customers' preorder money as a revenue stream. In effect, the Pi from RS costs more than they quote, because you have to factor in months of inte...

Re: Getting started with Apache!

Hi. I've successfully set up an apache server and it currently lives here: http://owen.podzone.net Not much content on it yet, as the weather has been too nice to be inside. It was just done as a test, although a couple of my photos are on there. I can get into the site but the two pics of deer and...

Re: Learning Unix/Linux is this product for me?

Why not start off with a 'live' CD to boot your existing PC - that will let you run Linux at near zero, risk, cost and delay. Alternatively, you could make your PC dual-boot so you can try it. Also little risk, cost or delay but it runs at full speed and you can use it properly and save data. If you...

Re: Invitation to order from RS

As I understand it, if you wait a few hours the code will work again (assuming you did not complete your order). Thanks. I was going to say that makes sense (code lockout is reset after an interval) but why does it make you (me) wait at all, what does that achieve? It doesn't worry me as the delive...

Re: Invitation to order from RS

I got my invitation today too. Hooray - you might think. As it was the last working hour before an unusually long weekend, I went straight into the RS shop using the ridiculously long activation code copied from the email and spent several minutes deciding what to have as a side order but wanted to ...

Re: Invitation to order from RS

I just wish we knew at what intervals the 'Invitation to Order' emails were being sent out. It looks as if quite a few have been sent out over the last day or so, but it would at least relieve the anticipation a bit if someone were to say when the next 'batch' will be available. No intervals - it'l...

I am in the UK and registered on 6th March, but haven't received an invitation to order yet. Hopefully it will be in the next 'batch'... whenever that will be! :? "Next batch"? I think I'm a couple of days ahead of you and I haven't been invited to order yet. RS got 100,000 registrations on the fir...

All this talk about prehistoric computer books made me go scratching around for mine. So far only found this one dating back to 1983: http://s8.postimage.org/x12j45zmt/Z80_book.jpg http://s8.postimage.org/x12j45zmt/Z80_book.jpg I've got that one and a decent paperback on the 6502. Re: Custom Package Index for RPi

Couldn't this be easily achieved by having a wiki page (or managed controlled page) with links to the repositories where you can download from? This avoids having to have a server to organise and look after but means you can still control what's good for the Pi.

<t>How much voltage can drop across a tiny length of admittedly very thin fusewire? If it"s more than 0.1 or 0.2 V I'd be very surprised. I can measure it under load and if it"s significant drop I can adjust the PSU output as there"s a trimmer. Alternatively, a polyfuse would be good if I can get on...

Re: Adequate Power Supply Critical to Pi Stability

Good, thanks that makes sense. I can easily add a 1A fuse. Most likely though, my R-Pi will be part of a post 10k batch where RS/Farnell save a few pence per unit by leaving off the GPIO pins making connecting much harder for anyone not equipped or not confident with soldering.

If so, where is the first post on this forum done using an R-Pi? Link please.

If it hasn't happened yet, who will be first?

It would have IR sensors to control LASER-turrets, which don't kill or injure the beast but just singe the fur, not with the three strokes of Zorro's Z but  a ?
