Re: how to update or reinstall wiringPi of either prior installation source

If wiringPi was installed from the package manager, APT knows about it. apt list wiringpi Listing... Done wiringpi/stable,now 2.44+1 armhf [installed] This shows wiringPi was installed through APT, and any updates will be automatically handled by APT. But this is with Raspbian Stretch, if you are st...

I am afraid the Geany part is the only thing I can help you with, I hope someone else can help you with the graphical part of your question.

Re: Graphic window for python GTK compiler Geany

I think you will find this useful: https://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=66&t=191818#p1203549 With the upgrade to Raspbian Stretch something has changed in the behaviour of either Geany or lxterminal, and because of that the terminal dow does not work properly anymore. But it's an easy ...

Re: Problem with Geany - 'execute' command displays blank terminal window

I think you will find the solution here: https://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=66&t=191818#p1203549 buja, the link you posted is about Python. No, it's not. While the original poster had this problem with Python, I had the same problem with C after upgrading to Raspbian Stretch. The so...

Re: HTML Editor.

Bluefish is in the repository, so you install it easily:

Code: Select all

sudo apt install bluefish
(or sudo apt-get install bluefish if you like old style better)

Re: Change your default password.

So far it seems to work well. When using sudo it will ask fo...

Re: Geany broken in Stretch ?

I found another solution (to my own problem !) after much searching and some experimentation : Change the first line after [tools] in ~/.config/geany/geany.conf to terminal_cmd=x-terminal-emulator --command="/bin/sh %c" and reboot Great! So it seems the x-terminal-emulator command has changed a bit...

Re: Geany broken in Stretch ?

I have not solved the problem, but I did found a work-around. Under Edit / Preferences / Terminal check "Execute programs in the VTE". Geany will run your program in its own terminal at the bottom of the window. It's not really an alternative for a full terminal window, but it might help a bit. Any ...

Re: Setup FileZilla

Delete it (the bz2-file) and install FileZilla in the usual way from the standard repository:

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install filezilla
Easy and it just works.

Re: Sharing projects??

If you go to the Board Index you will find almost 60 subforums to choose from, 8 of which are under "Projects". You may have some difficulty in deciding which is the right one for your particular project, but unless you file a flight simulator project under Magazines and Books you should be fine. An...

Re: STICKY: NEW FORUM SKIN - Comments here please.

Interesting - for me, Unread posts is a complete waste of bandwidth (there are about 100k of them), whereas new posts is perfect for moderating purpose - you can see all the new posts, from all forums, on page. And getting the latest post from a known thread is just a matter of clicking on the blue...

In the Prosilver theme, still my favorite, I miss the buttons for New posts etc.
I know they are under Quick links, but that's an extra click that should not be necessary.

@Milliways: I don't understand your "multitude of documents" in LibreOffice, could you explain what you mean? I edit a newsletter and get sent documents in multitudinous formats (despite the fact I request plain text). LibreOffice generally does a reasonable job of importing Word, fair to moderate ...

Re: Linux advocacy department...

I found the article interesting too. It amazes me that a multi-seat set-up is a sort of a special case, even in Linux which is supposed to be a multi-user OS. But that has probably more to do with the hardware side of things than with the basic OS? That people hardly notice that they are working on ...

Re: .wav file: play from a C/C++ program (Raspbian)

Playing a .wav file with a single function call with the name of the .wav file sounds like the most basic operation I can imagine, so 1dot0 asks the right question. I can totally see code like this: if (error) playwav("error.wav"); else playwav("okay.wav"); It may be trivial, but useful. For many pe...

However, I am trying to check the capture value e.g. when object distance > 300mm , one LED light up. As the LED needs GPIO so bcm2835 library also needs to be used. How should I set my bui...

But when I tried to digitally sign or encrypt an email, Thunderbird crashed.

What fruitoftheloom is trying to tell you is that you have a very high (beta) version of Thunderbird, and more to the point: not the version that comes standard with Raspbian. And that's where the problem is, that version is not working with Enigmal from the Raspian repository. The Enigmail website ...

Re: Is a PI 3 a viable desktop replacement?

Icedove is not a special Pi version of Thunderbird, it's a special Debian (and therefor Raspbian) version of Thunderbird to resolve some licensing issues. However, these licensing issues have been solved, so Debian and Raspbian can use the standard Thunderbird version again. If you update (sudo apt-...
