Re: SD Card Benchmarks

<t>Went to my local Costco in Canada and got a twin pack Sandisk Ultra 8Gb Class 6 cards (that's 2 cards for $26... which I think is a good deal).<br/> <br/> Anyway the performance test results, especial the 4k read/write tests, are very promising for RasPi.<br/> <br/> <br/> <br/> Unlike the 'cheap'...

Re: SD Card Benchmarks

<t>@alexeames: You are quite correct. If this was a proper scientific test and we were looking for absolutes then yes everything should be constant and the SD card should be the only variable. But as @rmm200 has pointed out, we are looking at orders of magnitude of differences.<br/> <br/> Additional...

Re: SD Card Benchmarks

<r>So there's a potential problem with microSD cards. According to the Fedora remix site (<URL url="http://zenit.senecac.on.ca/wik.....stallation">http://zenit.senecac.on.ca/wik.....stallation</URL>) they say, "You need an SD or SDHC card, with a capacity of 2GB or more. (Good-quality class 4 cards ...

Re: SD Card Benchmarks

<r>I know there are lots of threads asking about which SD cards are more suitable for RasPi, but I haven't found anything that gives a good answer. I looked at the RasPi wiki (<URL url="http://elinux.org/RPi_Verified.....eripherals">http://elinux.org/RPi_Verified.....eripherals</URL>) to see some ve...

Re: Rationale behind missing connectors? [RESOLVED]

<t>Final word: spoke to Eben today. The boards WILL, DO, POSITIVELY, YES,  HAVE the DSI and CSI connectors in place.<br/> <br/> Now the only problem left is the title of this post which will confuse anybody. So I leave this post open a short while longer but I will try to post-edit the top entry.<br...

Re: RS Components

Wow, seems like everyone managed to register at 6:10am... just like me... and today I also got the "confirmation of interest" email from RS. But did they take 5000 registrations in less than 10 minutes? I'll find out next week.

Re: Rationale behind missing connectors? [RESOLVED]

<r>I read at <URL url="http://elinux.org/RPi_Hardware">http://elinux.org/RPi_Hardware</URL> that the GPIO, JTAG, DSI and CSI interfaces will not have connectors fitted on the production RasPi boards.<br/> <br/> I don"t mind the missing GPIO and JTAG headers because these can be easily added later. Re: Fedora Remix or Debian?

<r>Ahh... I'm going to answer my own question!<br/> <br/> I've discovered <URL url="http://elinux.org/RPi_Distributions">http://elinux.org/RPi_Distributions</URL> is a great resource for the different OSes. Debian ARM was used with the alpha boards but the Fedora Remix appears to be the recommended ...

Re: Fedora Remix or Debian?

<r>While we patiently wait for our RasPi I thought I would prepare the SD card.<br/> <br/> I know there are lots of different options (RiscOS is quite appealing... anyone for Zarch??) but are there any significant differences between Fedora Remix 14 and the Debian system on the element-14 site <URL ...

Re: Introduce yourself!

Hi everyone,

I grew up with an RML-380Z and a BBC Micro (I still have it!). I'm really looking forward to blowing the dust off my soldering iron and start exploring the embedding/interfacing possibilities of the RasPi and learning a "modern" programming language. Good times ahead

<r>RS is pants. They really dropped the ball here. I expressed an interest with them at 6:10am, got the confirmation screen and have heard nothing since.<br/> <br/> Farnell Export - Element 14 however have been amazing. I finally pre-ordered with them at 7:30am and my pre-order and delivery date was...
