Re: Raspberry pi as mp3 player without LCD?

An arduino is a really expensive microcontroller board. But one problem that might occur with a linux computer and a non tech user is that sometimes it crashes or something and then the user doesn'doesn't know what to do. But iPods etc are based on much more simpler devices that are more mechanical ...

Re: Raspberry pi as mp3 player without LCD?

There is an extensible music player and server called Mopidy, with an extension that allows you to use gpio buttons exactly like on an old iPod. It can be controlled over network also. It has extensions for many on line streaming services. Written entirely in Python, and open source. It even has a r...

I always thought that quoting is escaping, just a different way of noting it... But I believe that it is good advice to use it always as you don't stand to loose anything.

Are you sure 1 A is too low? Just recently there was a guy asking for a battery to run 2 A and only much later did it turn out that he/she didn't understand what 2 A means. Describe the setup in detail.

Re: Possible to make a bluetooth speaker with Pi?

All of this can be resolved by not using bluetooth at all. Furthermore, you save alot of battery by using your phone to only control the pi and not have it send data over bluetooth all the time. I say this because it appears that many people don't realize this. Yet, if someone so wished, you can esi...

Re: sending email from the command line

You should not post your user name and password on a public forum! Anyone that read that now has your crendentials One problem not mentioned by people here is that if you store your password without encryption on your pi, there is the risk that it is stolen. Either remotely by hacker or if you loose...

Re: Possible to make a bluetooth speaker with Pi?

In theory, yes. However, you will most likely not be satisfied with the sound quality of it. Especially if you use the analog output. Plus you can make something way more interesting and functional with basically the same effort. Like a sound server that can be contolled with a phone or any computer...

Re: Mother needs help with Push Button GPIO

You cannot have software run (python code) on a computer that is turned off. But, what you can do is use a usb cable with a switch, so that after you software shutdown the pi (using the function "shutdown" in your python code), then also flip the switch (or unplug the wire) so that it will not be ge...

Re: Latest NOOBS, HOW remove RISCOS partit.for Ubuntu/Gparte

actually, the bug discussion specifially states that it affects ubuntu 14 and 15, so it is not from 16 on. but yes, when I had this problem on Debian, what happened was that the entire partition table was not recognized and the drive was displayed as not having partitions. Here that clearly does not...

Re: battery in mAh needed for running rpi3 for an hour..?

I think this thread is quite a good case study in how a question gets asked and answered. Your points all have some validity, but you will find there is more to a good answer than a simple and direct one. I hope you will take up the challenge of trying to answer questions. Expect to get it wrong so...

ok. thanks. except that there are a whole lot of news/tutorial sites posting about how it works on linux. my questions was however, that does this only apply to 64 bit x86 machines or does the widewinde CDM plugin really also work on arm and Raspbery pi. http://www.pcworld.com/article/3108544/linux/...

Re: Latest Version of Firefox(and Thunderbird) on a Raspberr

I tried searching for info on this. But the results were inconclusive. Obviously the answer to the ARM version is tha since you cannot find a armv6 ubuntu repo at all (so no firefox), it will not be possible. But what about the question whether or not the firefox widewine works on arm at all? All I ...

Re: battery in mAh needed for running rpi3 for an hour..?

Well, in my defense, I would still say that while It is true that people might think as is suggested in the above posts, it is just as true that most people (educated or not) will think that unless you measure something in reality you don't know what it is in reality. Furthermore, the internet is fu...

Yes, and this was already stated in like the second post, but it still does not answer the question, nor frankly does it have much to do with it. Well, that is a bit blinkered. The original question was answered (as it turns out, inaccurately, due to caffeine deficiency -- but this was corrected). ...

An idle Pi 3 uses a little over 1 watt. Not many Pis out there using 10 watts (5 volts x 2 amps). It's likely just the reading off the AC adapter.
