Re: Help with PiFace Digital

It's very disappointing as well as annoying, when you religiously follow instructions, not really knowing what to expect, and nothing works as described, only to find out months later that the instructions are wrong... Now that I've figured out how to read the state of the pin, I'd like know how to ...

Re: Accessing a Pi via Wi-Fi

Hi @balanga (freebsd)! You won't need any routing, and you could do what you want to do without using HostAP (the airport connection), but it'd be very insecure in my non-expert opinion. It's better to use the access point method, IMO, and do it pretty much the way it's described in the referenced ...

Re: Accessing a Pi via Wi-Fi

Or if the router solution is not appropriate you can set the raspberry Pi up as an access point, so that clients connect to it directly as a standalone network. See https://www.raspberrypi.org/documentation/configuration/wireless/access-point.md Thanks, I looked at that guide, and I'll probably fol...

Accessing a Pi via Wi-Fi

If I have a Raspberry Pi which runs independently as a home automation controller and is not connected to a network, but has a Wi-Fi card, how do I access it? ie how do I configure the interface and what do I need to do to set up on a PC to access i?

Re: Help with PiFace Digital

Just found the error.... Switch 1 is actually numbered 0!!!!!

It should be p.digital_read(0) for switch 1

No wonder I never made any progress.

Re: Help with PiFace Digital

different sensors will require different handling, the most basic inputs are simple on/off, 0/1, 0v/3.3v, as provided by a momentary contact switch such as found on the piface board connected to digital pin 1 and can be read in python by; (bottom of page) http://www.piface.org.uk/guides/Install_PiF...

Re: USB Broadband modem

It would appear that all I need to do is to correctly configure ppp.conf....

If I use Debian on a PC it "just works" without any additional software, so since Raspian is based on Debian am I wrong to think I can do the same on a Raspberry Pi?

Re: How to power a standalone Pi

Thanks for the link. How do I figure out how many watts I need?

Or how long 4x1.5v volt batteries would last?

Or is there any way to use a car battery?

Re: How to power a standalone Pi

By standalone I mean not connected to the mains, so obviously some sort of batteries, but which ones? I don't want them to wear out so I guess so I guess. I'm looking at solar powered... What options are there?

Re: Help with PiFace Digital

One of the problems is that I don't know how to make use of the inputs...

I have a starter kit from https://www.sunfounder.com/ which has lots of sensors but I don't know how to use them with the PI..

Some sample code would help.

Help with PiFace Digital

I bought a PiFace Digital three years ago and since I couldn't work out how to use it, it was left in a drawer since then. Now I want to try and make some use of it. I'm looking for any useful guides on how to program it, but don't fully understand how it works, not being well versed in electronics....

If anyone has setup TVheadend under Raspbian could you point me to a guide? Re: dvb-s2 USB stick for RPi

I've used both a DVBSky S960 and Geniatech HD Star on Raspbian with tvheadend, and they both work fine. You need to download the appropriate firmware files for them to work. I've dropped back to an x86 box though as it was easier to sort out storage for the recordings. Doing a Google search implies...

What kind of error messages are you getting? I would have thought Three would know what to do
I haven't tried to connect because I don't know what to do.

I would not expect to hear anything useful from Three technical support especially if I said I was using a Raspberry Pi.
