Re: Connecting PIR to PiFace Digital

After studying those two links I'm none the wiser. I can't believe how unhelpul pictures like this are https://www.element14.com/community/servlet/JiveServlet/downloadImage/293607990-1471-153426/IMG_20130606_180026.jpg There's too much going on and it's difficult to see where the wires connect... Thanks for that it works now.

Have you tried it with the -ven-sc parameters? :)

espeak "hello, world"

I've just discovered espeak (http://espeak.sourceforge.net/) and wanted to run

Code: Select all

 espeak "hello, world"
on my RPi....

It installed with

Code: Select all

apt install espeak
but it wouldn't run because of several ALSA errors such as

Unknown PCM cards..pcm.front

Is there anything I can install to fix this?

Can you suggest a PIR which should work with a PiFace Digital?

What should I look out for?

Connecting PIR to PiFace Digital

Has anyone tried connecting a PIR to a PiFace Digital interface.

I'd be interested in seeing how it is done.

My PIR is one of these:-

Waiting for a button to be pressed on a PiFace Digital

I want to set up an interrupt to wait for a button to be pressed on a PiFace Digital, and have found some code here referring to 'Barrier synchronisation':- https://media.readthedocs.org/pdf/pifacedigitalio/latest/pifacedigitalio.pdf which provides an example... unfortunately, I don't understand it....

Multiple connections to GND

What is the best of allowing multiple connections to GND?

On a PiFace Digital there is only enough room to connect a single wire between an output pin and GND, so how to I connect any further output pins?

Re: Attaching a USB socket to GPIO pins

I don't what I did wrong, but it's a simple as this:-

Code: Select all

import pifacedigitalio as p
p.init()
p.digital_write(0,1)
This applies to the first relay, and I was connected to the second, so no wonder it didn't work!

I'm sure it worked a couple of days ago, but it isn't working now... I think the code I posted was wrong.

Anyone switched on a PiFace Digital relay in Python?

Broken Pi

I bought a Raspberry Pi 2 a couple of years ago and it stopped working at some point so I left it in a drawer. The problem with it was that the spring in the microsd holder had broken and when inserting a card it remained loose so I was unable to boot. Today I came across the unit and just out of ii...

There's an intruder in my loft and I want to scare him/her off... :) I thought about playing high piitched sounds through the Pi audio port, but don't know how to do this. I guess I can use 'speaker-test' to play sounds, but I'm not sure how to generate the high pitched sounds that squirrels don't l...

Can you suggest one that works well?

Re: import http.server - importError

ImportError: No module named http.server Any ideas on what to look for and where? http.server is a module that is compatible with Python3. Might the problem be that you are inadvertently trying to run your script with Python? Which would mean Python2 by default. Spot on! Many thanks. I was running ...

Re: Attaching a USB socket to GPIO pins

If I've set it up correctly how do I switch it on an off? That may be a problem , you need to use the piface software to control the piface, but it looks like the piface manufacture/maker has abandoned the piface and it looks like it is not longer supported. Found the lines I needed! Here it is:- i...

I'm hoping to control by RPi via a web bowser using some sample code. I've just installed Apache and I can see the startup page, but when I run my program which includes the line import http.server I get an error msg:- ImportError: No module named http.server Any ideas on what to look for and where?

Unfortunately my electronics knowledge is non existant and I don't really understand the diagram... I'm trying to attach a USB socket to a PiFace Digital interface http://www.piface.org.uk/products/piface_digital/ I can't see how the diagram relates to this interface.

Device Manager

Is there anything like a Device Manager in Raspbian?

How can I tell if my Pi recognises the attatched hardware and has the appropriate drivers?

lsusb identifies my Wi-Fi card as a Ralink RT5370 vid/pid 148f:5370.

What entry should I have for driver in my /etc/hostapd/hostapd.conf ?

How would I go about connecting a USB socket to a Pi? I want to be able to control a USB powered light but don't know how to connect things up.

Do I just need to connect up the red and black cables to my Pi?
