Mounting USBStick for R/W for all users

Folks......I have a USB-stick always in my Raspberry Pi at bootup. This line is in the /etc/fstab file /dev/sda1 /mnt/usbdrive vfat defaults 0 0 I have read the "defaults" contains the option rw which I assumed meant that everyone could create and write to this device. However when I try to cp /etc/...

Re: Installing Tomcat

Thanks guys, your information will keep me occupied for a while.

On a related but different note, I'm getting a second Raspberry Pi B+. Can I install Tomcat on it without installing Apache2? I guess my basic question is, does Tomcat also install its own webserver?

Thanks...RDK

Using PC Parallel HD cable for GPIO

Folks....Is there any reason why an old PATA hard drive cable should not be ok to use with the Pi's GPIO pin set?.....RDK

Installing Tomcat

Folks....Had to leave my Pi for a couple weeks for other projects. When I left it I had Samba working after some W/R privilege issues on the shares which I fixed using the Samba's SWAT web interface. However after installing SWAT, I discovered I also had to install a webserver. I thus installed Apac...

Re: SAMBA: Win7 sees shares and files, but can't add, create

thagrol....Thanks for the info. I solved the issue, but I guess you would say I cheated. I installed SWAT, the SAMBA web configuration utility. Logged in as root and specified the existing SAMBA userid's as "Valid users" and "voila" now everything is working. Regarding your suggestions, the USB key ...

SAMBA: Win7 sees shares and files, but can't add, create or

Folks....I'm having a problem with SAMBA. My Raspberry Pi has Raspdian as the OS (recommended). I have a home network with several Windows 7 PC all networked (and happy). I have installed SAMBA on my Pi and it is working, kind of!!!! ;) That is, my Windows 7 PC's see the share and also the files in ...

Re: Editing the Samba Config file

Folks....Thanks, I think I understand the comments. The string posed by Richard-TX worked good enough for me. It did not eliminate the ; lines nor the blank lines, but did get rid of the # line comments. I can live with this reduction. Perhaps later I will try the other suggestions and try to really...

Editing the Samba Config file

Folks....I'm well along the way to getting my Pi basic configuration done. I just installed SAMBA and it seems to be working, ie I can see the USB key share I set up. What I would like to do is create a cleaned up copy of the smb.conf file. It has lots of comments (#'s and ;'s) which make reading it...

Starting from ZERO

Folks.....I have read recently, with interest, several post (other forums) where they were talking about the Raspberry PI. I finally broke down and looked up the Raspberry Pi website, just as they were announcing the new B+ model. I am computer savvy with years of experience with Windows, some FreeB...
